Today we’d like to introduce you to Terra McNutt.
Hi Terra, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I have been in the industry for over a decade and found my passion for interior design when I was very young. My father, who is a builder, would take me to job sites where I was immersed in construction and the design-build process. My mother, who is a realtor, taught me the kind of function and beauty you need in order to sell a home.
I started R.I. Studio because I wanted to nurture those unique relationships that only I can have with my clients and serve them beyond what they think their needs are for their lives and their home.
I earned my bachelor’s in interior design and a minor in architecture and have worked with highly respected firms in Dallas and Houston. My extensive construction knowledge not only sets me apart from other interior designers but also equips me to focus on the details that others overlook while overseeing my projects from conception through construction and final furnishings. I am known for my imaginative residential and commercial spaces and my ability to blend architectural elements with bespoke details that result in timeless and elevated designs that are unique to each client. Throughout my enviable career, I garnered an extensive portfolio spanning from Texas to Washington, D.C.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Starting a small business is never very smooth, but I have been fortunate to have good clients and relationships with those clients to help grow my business quickly. I would say the biggest challenge is managing work-life balance as a mom with a young daughter in kindergarten (all the activities and “dress-up days”), and as a Type A people pleaser, I tend to work long hours just to try and juggle it all!
We’ve been impressed with RI Studio Dallas, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
What sets RI Studio apart from other firms is my extensive background in homebuilding. Not only do we execute your interior design goals, but we are passionate about simplifying and streamlining the construction process.
