Today we’d like to introduce you to Sylvia Glover.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My passion for hair began early with a house full of brothers and a mother that had no previous experience with little girl’s hair. As a teenager, I knew exactly what to do to enhance a person’s looks through hairstyles by looking at their face. I gained the trust of my high school friends and from there my journey began.

If I had the opportunity to help someone look and feel better just by giving them a nice hairstyle I was satisfied. I chose hair care as a profession because natural, healthy, strong, vibrant hair is what everyone desires and I have the experience to help them achieve such a goal.

In 1999 I started doing hair professionally and have had the opportunity to participate in Bonner Bros and many other hair shows. I have also been featured in Salon Source magazine where I was able to show my versatility with natural hairstyles and products.

I enjoy interacting with others and making them look and feel great about themselves. I do this while caring for, maintaining, and treating their hair until it becomes healthy and vibrant. Loving and caring for my own hair allowed me to love and care for everyone else’s.

This is what I do, that’s Naturally Me.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I’ve been blessed to have a fairly smooth road in my professional career. I built a solid clientele in Inglewood, CA where I started and always stayed in demand. In 2008, my husband and I moved our family to Texas where I had to rebuild my business. I built my business the old fashion way, I passed out flyers and business cards daily. I changed my hairstyle weekly and walked Stonebriar mall. Every time I received a compliment, I would give them a business card. That person was my next potential client.

In this business, hard work matters!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a natural hair stylist, meaning I specialize in caring for and styling natural hair. I offer clients beneficial information they can and should use to maintain their healthy beautiful hair. I’m known for my natural hair styling creativity. If you want the same exact style that you had two weeks ago, I hope you took a picture, if not I have a new natural style in mind. As far as my business is concerned, I’m most proud of the fact that I moved to a state where nobody knew my name and solely based on my skills and professionalism. I’ve grown an awesome business. I’ve established beautiful relationships with clients that appreciate my service and my time. I’ve also been able to pour into young stylist who were eager to learn and just needed an opportunity. Hey, someone did that for me. I absolutely find it an honor to be able to do it for the next.

I believe what sets me apart from many is my efficiency. I respect people’s time. Clients aren’t sitting around and waiting. You’ll absolutely receive full service with no shortcuts. My timing has always seemed to amaze my clients and I find that’s something they truly appreciate. So, it has always been and will continue to be my goal and the goal of my staff to offer awesome well-informed professional service to each client in a timely manner.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
I would say find someone that’s passionate about the industry and aren’t just in it for the money. A good mentor will give you the good, the bad, and the ugly.
