Life & Work with Chelsea Bergin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chelsea Bergin.

Chelsea, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Home state is Arizona!

Like many other stylists, I fell in love with styling hair at a young age. It started with watching my mom style her own hair when I was real little. I absolutely loved watching and when got old enough started styling my own hair and ALL the dolls I had!

After high school, I went directly into cosmetology school and got my cosmso license.

Worked at a couple salons in AZ and got some knowledge and experience under my belt.

After a couple years I went to get my Cosmetology instructor license. After completing that I started instructing at academies in AZ and fell in love with education and instruction in the beauty industry. It is incredible how much you can grow and learn in your craft when teaching others.

After many amazing years teaching and working with incredible creatives and product lines in our industry like Sassoon, Bumble&Bumble, Davines, Pivot Point, Joico, Wella, and more I decided to make a change, take a big step and bet on myself. I went back behind the chair and opened my own studio. There was a transitional period where I was both teaching and building my clientele which was hard work but 100% worth it. Having my own space, being my own boss, having a full clientele and building felt amazing, satisfying, and something I was truly proud of.

After many amazing years working in various areas of the beauty industry and loving it, I could feel a shift within myself. Almost like my intuition knew I needed a change or something to that nature. I could feel I needed to grow in another space and do something a bit different. I started to take notice how much I was enjoying working with brides! I had always loved styling hair; it was what got me in the industry in the first place! I have always done styling along the way in my career but never dove exclusively into it. I started marketing and adding more content to my IG that was wedding/bride based and things were rolling naturally.

Come late September 2021, my husband comes home with an offer from his job with a big opportunity for us to move to Tulsa Oklahoma. THIS IS BIG!! We decided to take it and make the BIG jump and move!

This was my time to make the transition into styling and bridal hair exclusively!

Starting completely over from scratch is humbling, very vulnerable feeling but also so refreshing and exciting!!!

Fast forward to today, we love Tulsa! It is our new home and I am so thankful, grateful, and honored for the full book of brides I get to work with this year and the years to come.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Nothing good ever comes with a smooth road. Growing pains, learning curves come and go. Being young starting a career can come with its challenges. People not taking you seriously, not getting the respect you deserve, not knowing how and when to stand up for yourself in a work setting, knowing when to say No, knowing how to handle taxes when you own your own biz, how to grow and scale. Knowing boundaries and how to set them. How to have balance. All things that have come and presented challenges. All amazing lessons that I have learned and grown from AND am a better now for knowing and working through these lessons.

I feel I am a much stronger woman in my career because of these challenges and overcoming them.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a hair designer. I designed custom hairstyles for Brides for their wedding day and all wedding events.

I style and design hair for print and editorial shoots.

I absolutely love working with brides and being a part of their most memorable days.

I also love the creative styling I get to do for styled shoots, editorial shoots, and different artistic shoots. So inspiring to be around other creatives and see them work their craft. I love the freedom to style with no boundaries.
