Meet Jasmine Cato of Granny Jas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Cato.

Hi Jasmine, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I got where I am today by patience, networking, blood, sweat, and tears! Throughout my adulthood life, I’ve always fed people. From feeding my college teammates to hosting gatherings where I served food. It wasn’t until recently, that I realized turning a passion (cooking) into a career is attainable. I took a risk by selling plates in a couple states. It took me years before I finally built the courage to cook for anyone outside of my close friends & loved ones. I was terrified because word of mouth is critical. I’m so glad that I took the leap of faith!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
In the beginning, it was very smooth because it was solely about doing something that I love for fun here & there. Now that Granny Jas has become an actual business that’s grown, I’ve found it challenging to handle everything alone as it’s just me! This path was not easy, but worth it all the same. Learning to balance my work life, business, and personal life was extremely challenging, and I’m still learning time management. I continued to take it one day at a time and put my best foot forward. There were days that I felt I just wouldn’t have time to make meals, but where there’s a will, there’s a way!

We’ve been impressed with Granny Jas, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am a cook! I specialize in southern-style cooking. I’m known for my southern dishes but most known for my “soul food pies.” I’m most proud of the growth of my business, as I started it from the ground up, by myself. I never expected to turn my passion into something that consistently brings joy into others’ lives.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
I intend to be a household name for catering. I want people to have events and their guests KNOW where the food came from.
