Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristin Ammon.
Kristin, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Scout Design Studio offers a globally sourced collection of furniture, artwork, lighting and home accessories. Launched in 2012 with well-edited vintage finds, Scout now manufactures their own private label designs. The new Scout Label collection, designed by the in-house creative team, compliments the studio’s already distinctive aesthetic with pieces that are produced in limited runs. Owners Tiffany Taylor and Flann Harris will remain true to their nomadic roots by scouting the globe for the finest craftsmen and cutting edge design.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Growth is never smooth or in a straight line, we are constantly changing how we do things, reflecting on what is going well, and seeing where we can push and try new things. The beauty of small business is that you can be nimble and try new things quickly, but with that can come a variety of challenges.
Scout Design Studio – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
What sets us apart is our product mix and service. We started as vintage and offered refinishing, and have evolved and grown the private label side of our business quickly. Our motto is simple and reflects the brand well; “We’re not for everyone. Neither are you.” We love to have a mix of the unexpected, as our clients come to us expecting something different. On top of product mix, we pride ourselves on exceptional service and going above and beyond for every client.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Seeing such a great reception to our Scout Label collection has been thrilling to watch. In the last year we have seen such a huge shift in what clients are looking for from our brand, and it has been exciting to see the positive response to the original designs and pieces in our collection.
