Today we’d like to introduce you to Joe Houston Jr.
Hi Joe, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’m originally from Cleveland, Ohio… I always wanted to move out of my city just to really explore and grow outside of my city, they say you if you really want to learn yourself and build character in the process move out of your hometown, so after a visit to Dallas and just being infatuated with the city, that’s exactly what I did. I’m still trying to figure everything out and lay foundation but I’m proud of myself for even coming this far.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road was definitely not smooth, I’ve had financial struggles and a few personal struggles, both of which I’d rather not go into detail with, the most important part is that I overcame and kept my faith strong. Still until this day, I believe whatever problems I may face I can get through!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am an artist… maybe to even broaden things, an entertainer. I mostly do music, songwriting, singing, learning to produce, engineer, and play the couple instruments I have. I’ve had my music placed in a movie, acted in a short film, and had a short cameo in the movie Judas and the Black Messiah. I also enjoy fashion so I’ve done a few shoots for some clothing stores/brands as well. I’m most proud of my music, just sticking with it for as long as I have. I’m extremely versatile and I think that’s what really sets me apart from everyone.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Everyone’s a critic, but you’ll be your biggest one if you let everyone else’s opinion affect you…be true to yourself and be kind to yourself.
