Life & Work with Kendra Hutchinson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kendra Hutchinson.

Hi Kendra, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started as a fitness enthusiast. I would go to the gym to blow off steam and just stay in shape. It wasn’t until after I became a mom (5 years ago) that really pushed me into what is now my business. Like most women, I was wearing many hats after becoming a mom and I would often find myself tired, stressed, irritable, etc., but somehow, I would still find time to workout and meal prep. After sitting with myself for a while I realized that’s what was keeping me sane. Working out was helping me stay mentally sharp and meal prepping on Sundays was actually very calming and relaxing. I then created a blog on Facebook (2019) and shared my story with other women just to motivate them and document my journey and it was received well. After a year on Facebook, I decided to my broaden my audience and moved most of my content to Instagram (2020) and that’s when I realized I really had something! I kept getting questions and inquiries about services that I wasn’t thinking about offering yet. So, I became a certified fitness trainer (2021) That same year I opened my business with the state of Texas, I began training 1:1 (13 clients) I held a few group training classes, I launched my website (www.atruequeensfitness.com) where I sell fitness apparel and equipment, and I’m looking to do so much more.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Absolutely not! This has by far been one of the hardest things I’ve ever done! Giving birth wasn’t even this hard. Lol! 1) of my struggles was imposter syndrome. I had that really bad in the beginning because I’m new to the industry and it’s so much I don’t know so I would often feel intimidated before I could even get started. 2) Realizing that running a business takes so much time away from the things and people you love. You’re married to an idea that hasn’t peaked yet so it’s hard explaining your vision to people when all they want is your time…time you may not have. 3) it is an investment not a hustle. With an investment, you’re not gonna see a return immediately. You’re gonna put so much money in before you ever see anything in return. With a hustle, you’re in it for the money so the turnaround for a quick dollar is faster, but an investment takes time and dedication.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a certified fitness trainer. I specialize in 1:1 training and group training for women. I’m known for being an advocate for mental health and motivating women to aim higher. I’m most proud of ME, and I mean that in the most humble way possible, but I truly am. I never know where God is going to put me next or what crazy ideas I’m going to dream of, but I know wherever I land I’m going to put my best foot forward and excel. What sets me apart is I actually have an extensive background in the banking/financial industry so I guess that’s where my business mind come into play. I was able to tie in my love of fitness and business and make it one.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc.?
I have a daily affirmation app called “I am” that sends me positive affirmations every day. I watch Roshan Sylvia on YouTube (she’s like a spiritual advisor) but she’s very calming to watch. I also listen to Eric Thomas who is a motivational speaker. I love The Joe Budden Podcast because there’s a lot of hidden gems that most people miss. As far as books are concerned, I read anything that helps me advance as a person. I’m currently reading “clean up your mental mess” by Dr. Caroline Leaf.
