Life & Work with Tralon Raper

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tralon Raper.

Hi Tralon, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
Hey, I’m Tra, and I am the owner of FatMan Snacks. Last Christmas my mom decided it was time for me to start my own business. Instead of getting Christmas gifts, my mom got my logo created, my DBA filed, T-Shirts, and money to fund my business. Everyone always asks me where the name FatMan Snacks come from. Well, the story is, my parents gave me the nickname Fatman when I was a baby because I was really fat, and I love snacks! Literally, I have to eat a snack before bed. Lol!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
So far, it’s been a pretty smooth road, but sometimes it can be slow. For example, I may get 5 orders a week, but on a normal day, I get 6 orders from my local customers. So, orders and sales can be unpredictable, but that just makes me want to advertise more and more. Like, it drives me to push harder.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I sell snacks like chips, candy, rice crispy treats, popcorn, honey buns, Gatorade, and soda. Pretty much what you can get at the convenience store, but my prices are way cheaper! I originally started selling my snacks after school, but my mom created a website to expand my business. I am proud to say that I can ship my snacks to all 50 states. However, we deliver local orders, for free! I am most proud of myself for being an 11 years old kid who is genuinely learning how to run a business while being a full-time student. This sets me apart from others because I’m just a kid, but I am determined to be a boss and inspire others to do the same!

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
The qualities that I feel most important to my success would be honesty, efficiency, being kind to others, and showing gratitude to those who chose to support me! I also think it is important to respect others while serving others because you never know who is watching you or who might notice.
