Today we’d like to introduce you to Laci Coker.
Laci, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started Tease to Please in Sept 2013 with just me doing hair for special occasions. I quickly learned makeup was in demand as well for weddings and special occasions. I added a makeup artist to join me. As the weeks went by I added to my team professionals that didn’t want their own business but talents blew me away! We all take pride in our professionalism, customer service from first point of contact, and joy of someone’s special day or occasion. At the end of 2016 I booked 200 weddings, have a team of 13 professionals, and have been awarded some of the best awards in the wedding industry. Our reviews are so sweet and diverse, our brides are the best, and we thank God daily for all our many blessings. Dreams do come true. I just turned 31 and this is beyond what I had planned for Tease to Please!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Two main struggles are the competition undercutting (however, I started somewhere too so I am remaining patient) and being thankful for the fact Dallas has plenty to offer. The other struggle is my very first makeup artist and sweet friend. She was always late to clients and weddings and I continued to show her grace and patience. But at the beginning of 2017 I had to finally stop contracting her out. It was a delight to watch her grow as an artist but couldn’t continue to take the risk and enable her work ethics anymore. It was so hard to have this conversation. She is a single Mom and I loved blessing her and her daughter but… she was hurting more than helping.
Tease to Please Hair and Makeup – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We specialize in Hair and Airbrush Makeup for special occasions. We go on location mostly to venues, hotels, homes, and provide amazing services to brides, Moms, and clients of all ages. I have had the honor to do 5 sisters weddings, a Bride and all 6 of her bridesmaids, and many Brides who are now Mommy’s to 1 or 2 small babies! I would say what sets us apart is I truly care. It’s not about just another client or wedding for me. I connect with each bride and provide such an easy experience (because after all planning a wedding is a little overwhelming) since I do have a very large team I rarely have to say no. Some Fridays we have 3-4 weddings going on, Saturday’s 5-7 weddings, and Sunday’s 2-4 weddings. It’s truly amazing!
I am most proud of me being small town girl who couldn’t pass my written state board tests after 7 tries not giving up. Following my passion and dreams. I am most proud of my team for being who they are and allowing me to lead them, and lastly proud to say all Glory goes to God. He has blessed me with this platform and I have so many opportunities to serve, love, and encourage Brides who are on their 3rd marriage and are nervous as nervous gets, Brides who loses a loved one right before the wedding, or a sweet 22 year old Bride who has her bar exam at school but can’t wait to have her happily ever after. I have seen sooo much, heard so much, and have loved every min of it
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I would say setting goals every year and beating them, seeing a business triple, seeing each and every review come in and be blown away by my team and how amazing they are, and lastly getting over those struggles by trusting God and knowing his plan is already so much better than mine and to continue to work hard and rest when I can lol!
