Today we’d like to introduce you to Niticha Ward.
Hi Niticha, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I come from a family that loves sweets (it is in my DNA makeup). I have always loved sweets over anything. As a kid, I would sneak in the pantry at night just to eat the cakes my mom would put up or sneak and lick the icing off the cakes she would bake. So naturally, I taught myself how to bake, for myself and my family. When cupcake wars came out, I loved the creativity with the flavors of the cakes. SO, I decided maybe I can learn how to play with flavors, which lead to actually making custom cakes. Again, I self-taught myself how to decorate these elaborate cakes and started to get bookings. While doing this, I still had a 9-5 while booking on the weekends. Over 3 years it became overwhelming, and I completely stopped doing custom cakes and orders. When treat tables became the “in thing” to do for parties, I learned how to do those for my kid’s birthdays. This would include Candy Apples, Cupcakes, Cake Pops, or any dessert that would make the treat table more elaborate. In 2021, I did some for my niece’s birthday and someone asked if I could make some for their kid’s party, and I said yes. After having so many requests, I was convinced I should start offering this as a service and so I did.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely has not been the smoothest road. I still have a 9-5, so between that, doing Pop Up events, custom orders, and spending time with my family, it becomes overwhelming. I have attended Pop Up events that didn’t always make any profits, so those are losses along the way, especially since I have perishable items. But I have learned these are just part of the lessons you learn along the journey and enjoy it.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I make luxury custom treats for any event or occasion. I primarily do Magnum Cakes (Cakesicles), but I also offer Candy Apples, Breakable Hearts, Cocoa Bombs, dipped Oreos, and Rice Krispies. I use all organic products for my cakes with the option for Gluten-Free, and Vegan for the Rice Krispies. My specialty is that I don’t just do your tradition Vanilla, Chocolate, and Strawberry Cakes, I normally offer specialty flavors: French Vanilla, Vanilla Bean Caramel Chocolate, and Strawberry Champagne (among other flavors during the season). My most popular product was the Cocoa Bombs during the Fall and Winter season. I just started my Glam Cakes, which are cakes that look like little perfume bottles and those are a big seller and what I am most proud of. The detail that I put into each and every one of my treats when I make them is so important to me. Sometimes I am such a perfectionist, it gets in the way with time, but when I see the end work, it makes me so proud. The biggest remark I get from clients is “it’s so pretty I don’t want to eat it” or people tend to not think they are even cakes because of the detail.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you, or support you?
Of course, with support you can always spread the word of what I do and offer or sharing posts on my social media from my work or just mentioning me. Most of my clients have been word of mouth, which has helped with the growth of the business. I am always open to collaborating, you only have to reach out to me whether on social media, my website, or giving me a call.
