Today we’d like to introduce you to Morgan Bowen.
Hi Morgan, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I loved baking when I was young. Cookies, brownies, and cupcakes. After I graduated high school, I went to UNT. I continued baking but really started focusing on trying to make things from scratch. I had my first son a month before graduation and then became a stay-at-home mom. I had two more kids and was baking as a hobby to have something to myself. People started asking me to bake cakes and cookies and things for their parties and celebrations. My husband was the one who really kept saying I needed to open a home bakery. I opened in February of 2021 and it just took off!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
A lot of this business is word of mouth. I advertise my products on Facebook and Instagram but people want to know reviews from others who have bought from me before. So, getting people to recommend my bakery is huge, it makes me so happy.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I am a cottage bakery located in Argyle. I make custom cakes, cupcakes, and those really fancy cookies. I think the cookies are my specialty. I also offer many flavors in the cookies which is different than some other bakeries around me. I look back at the cookies and cakes I was making when I first started out and am amazed at the improvement of details and designs I have achieved. I offer a wide variety of flavors in cakes/cupcakes, I even have gluten-free and vegan options as well.
Risk-taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I am not much of a risk-taker. My husband takes risks every day and I completely support him.
