Today we’d like to introduce you to Angel M. Proctor. She and her team share their story with us below:
Born in Mountain View, California, she and her sibling, Nicole, were reared in Dallas, Texas by their maternal grandmother, Missionary Bonnie F. Proctor, RN. Proctor is an honors graduate of Lincoln Humanities/Communications Magnet where she was in the National and Spanish Honor Societies. She studied piano and organ for 15 years with the late Felice Collins, (renowned musician for St. John Missionary Baptist Church), performing recitals and receiving several music awards.
Proctor served in the U.S. Navy onboard a U.S. Naval Cruiser-Guided Warship from 1996-2000. She became the first enlisted female Master Helmsman and then completed reserve duty before her Honorable Discharge from Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base (NAS JRB) in 2004.
In May 2004, Angel graduated from Eastfield Community College with an Associate in Arts Degree in Liberal Arts. She then went on to obtain a Bachelor of Science in Business and Management with honors in 2015 from HBCU Paul Quinn College.
As an avid community participant, she serves in the following capacities: Volunteer Secretary with the Texas Northeast First Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction Nurses Unit under the leadership of Colonel Verdell Marsh, Ph.D.; Secretary for the Paul Quinn College Alumni Chapter and a proud member of the Omicron Mu Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha, Sorority Incorporated both in Dallas, Texas.
Proctor also holds membership with Sigma Beta Delta and Alphi Chi Honor Societies; National Association for the Advancement of Colored People; National Museum of African American History and Culture.
Her recent accomplishment includes winning the title of Modern Miss American Royalty, USA in 2018.
Presently, Proctor is employed with Fed-Ex Ground as an Operations Manager and was recently nominated this year for The Lone Star Women in Leadership.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it has not been a smooth road. A couple of the struggles dealt with include:
1. Overcoming female barriers working in predominately male industries.
2. Economic hardship during periods of recession and pandemic
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
As an Operations Manager on the frontline, I help “support the FedEx Ground (FXG) Safety Above All Culture and manage specific day-to-day operations with an assigned staff.” I am responsible for “ensuring safe and efficient package sortation through the management of Package Handlers.”
I am most proud of helping to develop and propel employees to reach their full potential through professional and/or personal growth and advancement.
I would say what sets me apart is my old-fashioned home training combined with a militant background and concerned interest in inspiring others.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I was a nerd, poked fun of, a loner and definitely not popular..lol. I liked to read a lot and at times, I felt reading was a getaway. I would venture out across the pages to wherever my vivid imagination would take me.
