Rising Stars: Meet Ty Lambert

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ty Lambert.

Hi Ty, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started my journey as a high school Biology teacher in 2002. Part of my duties included doing the homeschooling for pregnant and parenting teens. I realized that much of my time was spent teaching them about what was happening with their bodies and securing resources. During that time, I gave birth to our second child at home with wonderful midwives. The style of health care delivery provided by our midwives was in line with my desires for that delivery. I was inspired to become a nurse myself because of the combination of teaching and social-emotional attention to clients, so I went back to school in 2004 to become a registered nurse. In nursing school, I worked with newly delivered moms and babies in hospital, and I went directly to the labor and delivery unit once | became a registered nurse. I had a great team to learn from and I have had the opportunity to work as a labor nurse, taking my knowledge skills, and talents to several regions of the US. Currently, while running my business Baby Me Well, I also am a Clinical Professor of Nursing working with BSN nursing students. I also continue to work part-time in hospital settings to stay abreast to innovations in the nursing field and serve families and their new babies.

I started Baby Me Well because of what I observed working as a nurse in different regions of the U.S., and in hospitals with patients from different socio-economic backgrounds. I noticed the disparities in healthcare that exist. Patients and nurses also would experience microaggressions depending on their religious or ethnic background. My goal was to makes sure that every mother gets the best treatment for themselves and their babies.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Challenges that I face are related to misinformation regarding health care practices and implementation. I believe people truly want to have their optimal health outcomes. They seek truth and guidance but some of the info being circulated is not evidence based or peer reviewed. This is true of the general public and healthcare professionals. I would look directly to maternal and infant mortality rates as evidence. I have seen some scary
situations unfold in hospital because someone didn’t get the care that could have saved a life.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
