Daily Inspiration: Meet Aimee Lary

Today we’d like to introduce you to Aimee Lary.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
It has always been a dream of mine to write a children’s book, but little did I know my daughter Bailey and I shared the same dream. For the past 10 years, I have served as a special education teacher in both elementary and secondary levels with Bailey being a very active 5th grader. During the pandemic shutdown, we tried to keep busy with school work, doing arts and crafts, baking, and walks in the park. But after a few weeks life became monotonous. So, we decided to write a children’s book together. Our first thoughts was to write about masks, how unique they were, and how they can describe one’s personality. Then we decided to go a little deeper and write about Bailey’s journey during this unprecedented time and The Day After Spring Break was born. This book was written with hopes to inspire other children to share their feelings and thoughts about how the global pandemic affected them.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Initially, when we decided to step into the world of “Authorship”, Bailey and I were very nervous and afraid but yet optimistic. We were unaware of the process, all we had was the end in mind and that was to self-publish our first children’s book. Surprisingly, we learned that it wasn’t as challenging as we thought. With the guidance of our mentor Louie McClain II founder of Melanin Origins Publishing Company, we were able to execute one step at a time in order to reach our goal.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Who knew that after writing our first book there would be another? In February 2022 I released my book, The Principle of Reciprocity. It is about a young lady embarking on a new journey at a new school and having an unpleasant experience. This children’s book is more than a mere “what goes around comes around”, the notion speaks to cause and effect, it speaks of action, consequences, and rewards that affect the state of an entire community. Also, make sure you keep a lookout because we will be releasing our 2nd children’s book, Matchless Mom in May 2022. A warm and loving story about a superhero who rises above the rest. One who has vision, super speed, healing abilities and so much more, the Matchless Mom. Bailey and I believe there is an author in all of us because everyone has story to tell.

What makes you happy?
What makes us happy is seeing the joy our books bring to children all over. It makes our hearts SMILE to hear from families about how our stories have given their children the motivation to talk about their thoughts and feelings, it’s imperative that we teach our babies…big and small, how to communicate appropriately and effectively. We hope parents will be encouraged to communicate with their children, listening and talking in ways that make them feel valued and important.
