Meet Michelle Cumberbatch of Our Life’s Moments

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Cumberbatch.

Hi Michelle, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?

Well, before becoming a relationship coach, I was always the person everyone came to with their problems. However, it wasn’t until my own fumbles and mistakes in my life that I started to truly value the lessons in my fumbles. Those unforgettable experiences have helped to cultivate the woman I am today.

At the age of twenty-one, I married my childhood sweetheart despite the obvious red flags, all in the name of keeping my love story alive. Where girl meets boy, gets married with a white picket fence & two kids.

However, marrying my childhood sweetheart did not turn out as I had dreamed. Unfortunately, the first 30 days of our marriage were to be the beginning of the rollercoaster ride of my life.

Within the first thirty days of saying “I do,” to my childhood sweetheart’ he was imprisoned and later sentenced to seven years for selling drugs.

During his incarceration, I cultivated a deep desire to prove all my naysayers wrong. However, my tunnel vision to prove everyone wrong left me open to my inability to identify my needs outside of the physical.

During this time I was busy protecting the obvious that I neglected to recognize I needed the companionship, and emotional support that a husband brings. My neglect to recognize my needs led me to develop a friendship with a married man who happened to be a friend of the family.

He was everything I needed emotionally and mentally, he met my needs without me even identifying them as legitimate needs. He felt safe and we were just platonic friends until we weren’t anymore.

Unfortunately, my naive and unsuspecting outlook of being close friends with a married man, who happened to be 10 years my senior when I was in a place of lack spoke to my immaturity.

To make a long story short, my inappropriate actions with this married man. Have since blossomed into a now twenty-two-year marriage and four kids. As beautiful as an ending it is, it turned out my choices didn’t come void of consequences such as infidelity.

It is for this very reason, I have made it my mission in life, to serve as a guide to help women who are feeling frustrated and stuck in a marriage that is not serving either party anymore or the woman who feels like her husband isn’t the same man she married because they don’t seem to have anything in common. Even worse yet, the woman who has experienced the ultimate betrayal by the one person she loves and trusts most, her husband, I know because I have been on both sides of the fence but by the grace of God, we were able to become intentional around the result we wanted to create and that is a marriage of purpose. My job is to help provide a roadmap around the results they want, to now create a space where they’re able to find purpose and passion in their marriage.

Then is the woman who is tired of running the dating circuit without results and is ready to make the hard choice like taking sex off the table so she can see clearer and stop looking for love in all the wrong places. My job is to equip her with strategies to do it, so she is positioned to make informed strategic choices to create the result she desires.

My journey as a single mom of two and a married woman of twenty-two years has not been a smooth road, and if it were not for the bumps, I would not be the woman I am, nor the coach I am. Instead, I am the fruit of my struggles. God has served me with many personal lessons, the treacherous weathers of life coupled with selfish and uninformed decisions. Michelle Cumberbatch did not realize that her choices would have a lasting impact as a young woman. I am now married for twenty-two years, and through those years, I have dealt with highs and lows, wins and losses. However, I’m grateful we have stayed committed to our love, marriage, and family.

And throughout this journey, my husband Nigel has been an incredible support to me and my business. I quietly celebrate every day we both get to embrace our constant evolution and growth. Therefore, struggles are another way of saying grow intentionally.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Our Life’s Moments?
Our life’s Moment’s Organization was formed in 2017. Our company was created to serve women like myself who struggled to find their way in this world, with the belief of God in her heart and the world’s temptations at bay.

As a successful case study myself, who has strategically learned how to navigate this life with a burning desire to stay true to the woman God created me to be, I found solace in equipping other Queens like myself to discover their freedom.

I was caught in two parallel cultures: an American by choice and a Guyanese by birth as a young adult.

The continual battle of desiring to simulate without losing self became transparent; I discovered I was not alone. There were queens everywhere who were from different races, ethnicities, shapes, and sizes, tussling with the idea of fitting in. This relentless battle has claimed so many casualties and some fatalities who have surrendered completely or found what feels like a close-enough mask to wear on this journey called life.

Our social norms are constantly evolving; however, in the process, I can see this diminishing or reconstructing the importance of truly fitting into your skin while loving all your flaws.

For these very reasons, I have answered the call in my life, to reach back to help other queens avoid the trap of the enemy. It is imperative for me that my journey not only serve as a testimony but also a living guide to other like-minded Queens.

To understand the importance of First Love Yourself, the equipping of one single woman positions her to Date With A Purpose, which will curate a marriage of intention. Her intention will cultivate a Kingdom Marriage, forever changing the dynamics for her generations to come.

Of course, that is the ideal circumstance. Countless marriages didn’t start with a grounded woman who knows her authentic self. Unfortunately, this is too often the case for many women, as it was for me.

Embracing this journey without further injuries to her marriage becomes a balancing act of who should be fed first. This is where I come in, serving as her guide through the process, liaison between her and her future self.

The reassurance of walking in God’s purpose for your life is not only a prize to oneself but serving your husband and kids from a place of overflow is a blessing to the family legacy.

I see marriage as two different individuals who have decided to come together to create a greater collaboration in a holy union. However, when those very individuals decide through their frustration, betrayal, etc., to consciously or subconsciously no longer be willing participants in the greater collaboration, the marriage erodes.

This is the start of burying their purpose, and commitment for each other becomes obvious, and the individual fleshly perspective takes a front seat in their marriage. Here is when I can come and serve the couple to confront emotional injuries so they can start the journey of healing. My purpose is to help them rediscover common purposes with a Godly perspective.

Our Life’s Moments mission is to serve with a Godly perspective in mind; one of my mentors was John Maxwell, who has served in the Secular world using biblical foundation principles. I have adapted the same philosophy. This has made me stand out as well as repel others, and that is perfect.

Our Life’s Moment was birthed with Jesus Christ in mind, and I wanted to implement that throughout the company. However, I didn’t know how to. It wasn’t until I went to Chick-fil-A as an HR director. There I experienced sitting down in our director’s meeting and my operator opening the meeting with prayers.

At that very moment, I knew the direction I wanted to take. However, there was some hesitation and the worry about offending others, but I realized it was my culture to create, and it was their prerogative not to be in it, so I am proud to say that is part of our weekly staff meeting now. And this routine brings the whole of God’s presence to permeate the entire company. From the way we interact to how we serve each other and our clients.

Therefore, every Monday morning staff meeting begins with prayer over our employees, company, and the clients we serve. Prayers have become our culture, the of Our Life’s Moments.

Our life’s moment was created to serve women who wanted to find their God-given purpose and their self and their relationship. Our Life’s Moments has three courses available online for the self-starter and for the person who wants a more intimate experience, one on one, and that is the first Love Yourself course dating with a purpose and relationship rehab. We have launched our OLMentorship club for married women where we would serve women in the areas of self-love and cultivating Marriage 4 Life with purpose and passion in mind.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
These are a couple of things I have learned since I started charging for my coaching. All money isn’t good money; committed people invest in themselves. I realize that the person I am serving is me in an earlier part of my life. Because of this simple realization, I can show up authentically and hold space with grace for those women to go on their journey without judgment.
