Rising Stars: Meet Ruben Ibanez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ruben Ibanez.

Hi Ruben, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started vlogging around Dallas back in 2017 and I ended up meeting with an artist by the name of Astrus* and we eventually ended up collaborating on a music video which led to collaborating with others…

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it was definitely not smooth and the quality of my videos were not what I was envisioning. I was definitely a learning curve to get to where I am now. I would use YouTube tutorials on how to edit, shoot and plan my videos. I even took a cinematography class to get a better understanding of the whole process.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I would call myself more of a director than an editor/videographer. I’m at the point in this journey where I just want to focus on directing my vision rather than doing it all. I specialize in music videos and that’s what I’ve been known for her for a while now. I’m most proud of what my videos come out to be especially since there’s a lot of last-minute changes and audibles that were never discussed and it just all ends up working out for the better you could say I’m good at improvising. I think the one thing that sets me part from majority of people is that I take the time to get to know the artist that I work with and we develop chemistry which helps on set.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Being straightforward with people and meeting their expectations and being professional. I believe being able to tell someone that something isn’t gonna work out is also a good characteristic because a lot of people are “yes men” in this industry.
