Today we’d like to introduce you to Andre Calder.
Hi Andre, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
Solid Rock Productions started in 2008, in Anchorage Alaska. We started off as a production company that would produce staged plays. In 2014, When my wife Shondalla Calder started producing her own music, I decided that I would shift my focus to video. I bought my first camera and started making terrible videos for my wife. As time went by, I started improving year after year. In 2017 I was forced to medically retire from the United States Air Force after serving 12 years. This was a complete change, as me and my wife had never known anything but the military life. In 2018, I finished my Bachelors of Biblical Theology and enrolled in Full Sail University. During this time, I decided to shift my focus to wedding films. In this space, I would be able to tell love stories through film. In 2019 I changed the business into an LLC and things took off from there. I was going to college full time, working a 9-5, and filming weddings every weekend. In 2021 I took the leap and left my 9-5 job and focused all the way on business.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Transitioning from a full-time job to full-time business is no easy task, especially when you have three children and you are used to having guaranteed check on the first and the fifteenth. I had to forget everything I have learned in the world about income and change the way we live.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am an artist, so I am good at a lot of things in the art arena. I am a painter, I like to draw, a photographer and I like to make things with my hands. I am most proud of being able to work with my wife and create visuals to build her platform so she can tell her story musically. I specialize in weddings video and photography, and music videos.
