Meet Vallon Holcomb

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vallon Holcomb.

Vallon, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Hello Voyage! I’m Vallon Holcomb, I’m an Actress, Writer, and Producer. I’ve always had a passion to tell stories even as a kid. I grew up a performer putting on shows for my family and friends. I was a trained dancer from the age of 7 years old up until college. After graduating high school I attended Prairie View A&M University where I majored in Theater Arts. At the age of 22 years old I decided to move to New York to study acting at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts New York’ NY. After college I have appeared in numerous amount of US Tours, Stage-plays, Films, Commercials, and Network Television.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Being an Artist isn’t easy. I remember when I first applied to AADA, and someone said “Who would want to be an Actor…”…, and after I graduated, I finally understood what that meant . The No’s can take a toll on you and cause you to want to give up.

The road for me hasn’t been smooth. In this business, I’ve run into lots of opportunist in this industry. People who recognize your gifts and take advantage of you. Use you up for your talents and your time, and your money. But offering you nothing in return. In this business, you can become distracted by these type of people, their projects, and caring about what other people think. I think that those are the biggest obstacles and they will keep you stagnant.

Keeping my focus on my purpose that has been set out for me, and trusting God every step in the way is my remedy.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?

Acting, Writing, and Directing is my specialty. What I’m most known for is Stage-plays. My career began on the stage! I’m most proud of my tenacity. My college professor once told me that I reminded her of a sponge because I soaked up whatever I had a passion for. I’m evolving as an artist beyond what I ever imagined for myself. Possessing grit, confidence, strength, and endurance I have arrived.

What separates me apart is my why… I have a heart for people. Every stage I walk on, every script I write, every film I’m in, I ask for God to use me. I want to be a vessel. Use me Lord”. My desire is to be a light. To shine people towards God and not me.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
I’ve learned that I’m not in a race. This journey I’m on is ever-going, ever-changing. I use to grow frustrated because of failures or things not moving like I want them to. But I learned that rushing the process is immature behavior. Trusting the process, trusting who I am, trusting in my abilities, and trusting my journey gives me the anchor to release myself.
