Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Henderson.
Hi Jessica, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I was born and raised in Memphis, TN a city where everyone is in competition against one another. Whether it’s clothes, cars, or jewelry nearly 95% of the population love fashion. In my teenage years, I recall my mother buying me a lot of name-brand clothes Ralph Lauren, Duck Head, and Tommy Hilfiger were my favorite brands. There is something about these brands that I have always loved which are the color patterns. Throughout my high school years, I would tell my family and close friends I want to start a clothing line. Everyone thought it would be a great ideal for me. My step–father was a fashion designer in his younger days. One day I got a phone call from him saying he bought me a sewing machine. That’s the moment my passion for clothes came true. My 1st project was a pillowcase I needed to practice stitching a straight line. My 1st fashion show was named “Intro to Paris” that was the spark of my life it was an amazing feeling and I was over-excited to see models wearing my clothing. In 2019 I moved to Texas because I see a better opportunity for my life on a business and personal level. Christmas this year I received a circuit maker the lord has been continually opening doors for me. Recently, I gave out some Henni Clothing to the homeless. Henni Clothing isn’t just a brand it’s a reflection of me. God and self-discipline is how I got here today.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely not!!! I’ve always had a support team but I learned at a young age how to push myself. I have endured some hardship throughout this journey but didn’t give up. I’ve had financial and family struggles. My question to anybody will be “If you’re not investing in yourself, what exactly are you doing?”
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I started sewing clothes in 2018 and doing vinyl this year. My brand has been progressing daily and for that reason, my customers isn’t just local. I love it when my clients want me to freestyle on their clothes. The creativity of how clothes is made, the colors, and the feel of fabric on the skin is very important to me. Keeping my customers happy is the goal. I’m known for being reliable, funny, and down-to-earth. I’m proud of the decisions, falls, and unexpected moments because it has made me stronger and more dedicated. What sets me apart is that I taught myself how to turn my passion into reality.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up I have always been very active. Basketball became my 1st love I use to playing with the guys all the time. I started playing organized basketball in the 7th grade. I won my first championship game in the 9th grade and continued playing throughout college. Not only playing basketball but being dedicated to it saved me from a lot of mistakes and distractions. I graduated from college with honors and received a Criminal Justice degree.
