Today we’d like to introduce you to Olasubomi Odumosu.
Hi Olasubomi, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
As a kid, I was very hands-on, fixing things around the house, like when the TV wasn’t working, and other things, and good at it that I became, my father quickly recognized my skill sets and encouraged me to study Electronics and Engineering. I took his advice and got my first degree in Computer and Electronic science at one of the universities in Nigeria. And while doing my first degree, I did my internship with a company that assembled computers and repaired them, so I quickly became hands-on in computer and electronics buildout at a young age.
After my first degree, I went to India to further my studies. There, I acquired the skills required in the role of Network Engineering, Ethical Hacking, and IT Project Management, among others, to work in that Industry. After completing my educational program in India, I went back to Nigeria to work for the federal government for a year. Afterwards, I relocated to the United States and continued my pursuit of knowledge in the IT world. That allowed my career growth to begin in full swing.
In the United States, I started as a resident technician with Staples inc, where I sold computers and fixed computers for clients. My career journey continued eight months after leaving Staples and joining a pharmaceutical company as a Network Implementation Engineer. Since then, I have worked in different sectors, including IT Service Providers, Family Dining restaurants, Paper Manufacturing companies, Medical fields, and Financial Institutions, as a Network Engineer (from Jr to Mid to now Snr Network Engr).
While heavily engaged with work, I went back to school, where I achieved an MSc in Cybersecurity at The University of Dallas, Irving, Texas, with a 3.75 GPA. As I grew in my career, I had to keep up with the necessary level of certifications required in my field. So, I kept on studying, getting trained, and getting certified.
My exposure to different industries and the IT engineering world revealed that traditional engineers are fading out, and cloud engineers are in high demand, which led me to another level of training and certification in the cloud engineering world.
DoubleO IT Consulting came to life because I realized that there are people who need training the right way, empowered with the proper skill set, even if they have no prior IT experience. So they can step into the IT world with the confidence and the knowledge of the work that will make them successful from the jump and have fun while getting trained. We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
As the saying goes, every good thing has a rough beginning, but only the tough get going when the going gets tough. My personality is that of a go-getter, so I was able to push through the obstacles and with God’s help, the vision became a mission, and the mission became a reality.
There is always room for improvement, and the desire to be better has helped.
