Meet Kendyl Martin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kendyl Martin.

Kendyl, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I went to college at Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas. While I was there, I majored in Communications with an emphasis in Event Management. During my time in college, I had a long-term internship with a wedding planner named Jackie Curb. It was amazing to watch her tackle anything that wedding day could throw at her and she helped grow my passion for Wedding Planning.

After I graduated, Jackie decided it was time to retire herself from weddings, but I was ready to jump all in and wanted to keep going, thus Everything Bridal was born.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Although this is a blessing, I had no idea how fast Everything Bridal was going to grow! After graduation, I started my corporate job and was doing day-of coordination as a weekend job. However, the business grew so fast that I quickly realized this could be something I needed to do full time with such high demand in the industry right now.

I got about 6 months in with working full time and running a small business when I decided I would have to choose one, so I dove headfirst into my business and I am so glad I did. It is amazing to see the amount of growth Everything Bridal experienced in just our first year!

I would say that the biggest struggle has been that I am still a one-person operation! Currently, we are looking to grow into possibly having more than one planner on board in the near future. Fingers crossed!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Everything Bridal is a growing Event Planning company in the Dallas-Fort Worth area and beyond.

We specialize in weddings but have helped with proposals, engagement parties, anniversaries, and more!

When I was going through my personal wedding planning process, I thought that a planner/day of coordinator was a vendor that was only accessible to couples spending money on a huge extravagant wedding. Everything Bridal wants couples to know that we want to help make your event perfect no matter what! We believe everyone needs at least a Day of Coordinator in their life on event day!

We have been through the wringer to ensure our client’s day goes smoothly, even if that means putting out literal fires on wedding day (yes, this actually happens more than you think!)

Everyone deserves to relax on event day so make sure you hire someone that is there to ensure all your hard work is perfect on the big day, but more importantly to help when things don’t go as expected!

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
I wish I would have known how different it is working for yourself vs a corporation! You have to be driven and extremely self-disciplined because you have people depending on you.

My advice is don’t jump into being a wedding planner on a whim! I highly encourage people wanting to get into this industry to intern for an event planners. As I said before, I was an intern for 4 years while in college before starting events on my own. It was extremely helpful getting to watch someone handle the stress and come up with creative solutions before experiencing it for myself.

If you don’t think an internship is for you, try to volunteer yourself for some lower-pressure events first such as a birthday party or an anniversary party.

Wedding coordination can be extremely high stress with high stakes so try to learn the ropes with someone else before diving straight in! It will be up to you to save the day so make sure you’re prepared for it.
