Daily Inspiration: Meet Tempest Welch

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tempest Welch.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I graduated from The Grambling State University in December 2019 and relocated to Philadelphia, PA, shortly after. When I first moved, I began to travel with no job or anything until the pandemic started in March. At the start of the pandemic, I would occasionally create flyers and business cards for my friends in the TLC business for free. When I started doing that, I realized that graphic design is what I wanted to do!

In May, I started doing graphic design from home. When I started designing, I had an HP Chromebook where I would do all my projects on canvas and Phonto (text logo app). I operated on my Chromebook and phone apps for a couple months before making one of my largest investments in a MAC Book. I wasn’t sure if I was going to make the investment back but I DID! When I first started out, I was charging little to nothing, making more than I would at my full-time job as Therapeutic Support Staff. I worked and did graphics until August, which is the same month I decided to move back to Georgia. Then, I became a full-time graphic designer.

Over the past months, I have learned what to do and what not to do. I can say becoming an entrepreneur and a mother was the biggest blessing. I also recently invested in Primary Principles, which was the best investment ever! As a self-taught graphic designer, I was able to connect with other designers who actually went to school for the skill. We were able to collaborate and stay connected to one another after graduating.

Now today, I have relocated to Texas and have pivoted into being a Brand Strategist and Website Designer. I rebranded Stormy Creations to Stormy Co, I no longer wanted to be defined as a “Graphic Designer”. In this year, I was able to gain clarity in my brand and myself, thanks to my Coach Amber Crudup! I can’t wait to be able to educate women on WHY branding is important and HOW it can help them build generational wealth in their families.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Whoever said it’ll be easy? If someone ever told you that, they lied! Being an entrepreneur is lovely but it’s not the easiest. You’ll experience so much during the process, even when you think everything is running smoothly. My biggest struggle was creating structure and gaining clarity. Always remember that everybody isn’t your ideal client and you can’t do it alone! If you are saying that you want to make 6 figures but your actions aren’t aligned with your goals, you have to reevaluate to make sure the two are aligned.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a Brand and Website Designer who helps legacy-driven women entrepreneurs build a brand that empowers them to show up confident online so they can increase sales with loyal clients.

I am most proud of myself for stepping out on faith and doing what God called me to do by serving, educating, and empowering others.

I set myself apart from others by communicating and connecting with my clients not only on a business level but personally too. I want to be able to help my clients create generational wealth in their families!!

What do you like and dislike about the city?
Dallas is a lovely city to live in, it has a variety of things to do!

Unfortunately, Dallas is so small to me. I am originally from Monroe, La and everyone from home normally moves here.
