Daily Inspiration: Meet William Bernhardt

Today we’d like to introduce you to William Bernhardt.

William, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I grew up loving books. From an early age, all I wanted to do was write, I dreamed about seeing my name on the spine of a book at the library. I went to law school to pay the bills, but as soon as I was out, I started writing every day and trying to get published. Took a few years, but my first novel, Primary Justice, was published in 1991 and I’ve been writing ever since. I’ve published 58 books to date.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There are no smooth roads in the writing world. Probably not in any of the arts. No one can tell you how to do it—it’s all a wing and a prayer. I spent years trying to get an agent. Once I had an agent secured, the first sale came relatively quickly.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’ve written 58 books. I’m best known for legal thrillers, though I have written all kinds of things. I think I’m most proud of my poetry books. My books have a tone and attitude that sets them apart from other books in the thriller world. For me, character always comes first.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Perseverance.
