Hi Lola, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
Braiding hair became an instinctive skill at the age of 14 years old. I first started braiding my own hair once I was no longer able to have it done by mother, so I had no choice but to learn on my own hair. Over the years, I continued to braid my own hair as well as my friends and family, whom started to admire my work. I continued as a mobile hairstylist but I kept it as a side hustle only. January of 2020, I decided to quit working and started braiding hair out of a salon, i.e., Hairbylolab LLC. I continued to push Hairbylolab LLC thru all of COVID’s economic hardship. Luckily, I’ve taken business and marketing classes in college, so I continued to gain more knowledge about the hair business, I’ve gained mentors thru networking. I’ve worked in customer service and retail where I’d studied corporate side to business and how to create great customer experience. Incorporating all the business knowledge I’ve developed over the years; I’ve been able to create hair care products and now I am wanting to create more products for hair care. I honestly enjoy what I do.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
In the beginning, I struggled with organizing my clients and my schedule. My business was evolving so fast I had to stop doing hair and take a few hair courses to build my brand. I have always had high hopes for any business I create and I wanted to gain as much knowledge as possible about the hair care business. My business still has its bumpy roads, but I’ve learned from my failures and I’m grateful for them.

Hairbylolab LLC services Natural Hair car in Dallas Texas. Hairbylolab LLC was founded in 2020. We also provide hair care products such as organic hair growth oils that stimulate and soothe your scalp to create healthy hair growth. Hairbylolab LLC also provides “Starter Loc” classes for individuals whom acquire skills development and want to start their own braiding business. We want to continue to develop more services and more products to reach more areas with different demographics. I believe my business stands out solely based off my ability to adapt to all kinds of clients, from women to men, to kids and adults. I take pride in the integrity of my business and how it is running
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
My advice is, never burn your bridges. You never know who you might teach the important gems in life and your career. I believe in having mentors from all walks of life. I enjoy meeting individuals or partners who are in positions that I’ve dreamt of. I believe that you can’t always do it on your own.
