

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joel and Angela Ferdinandsen.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
We owned and operated a personal training company for 7 years and decided it was time to make a change. We love the health and beauty industry and decided that buying a salon was the right direction. Now neither one of us do hair but we understand and thrive in customer service and are very good at running a business.
We were lucky enough to keep the majority of our staff and then bring a few more on that completed our team. We truly believe we have the best stylists in Dallas. Luxe Salon is as successful as it is because of our amazing clients and our dedicated staff and has grown each year we’ve had it.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Angela and I every day are grateful for how smooth it has been. Getting the staff to believe in us was probably the hardest obstacle we’ve had and that wasn’t too difficult. We treated each employee fairly and listened to them on what makes them happy in their career. We may not always agree on issues but each side understands the other and a decision is made on what is best for the company.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Luxe Salon Design story. Tell us more about the business.
Luxe Salon Design is a spa/salon. We offer all of your normal hair services – cut, color, highlights, balayage, updo’s and straighteners but we also do scalp treatments. We teamed with Leonor Greyl who we believe is the best in the industry for scalp treatments and use their product to rid your hair of all the toxins and by-products that have accumulated in your hair and scalp and allow your hair to in a sense breathe again.
Depending on the client’s needs we can help thinning hair have more growth or add volume and bounce to the hair. On top of those services, we have an aesthetician, a reflexologist, and a masseuse to offer for the full spa experience. We also have a boutique where you can shop and pick up some beautiful gifts from robes and shaws to candles and lotions. We have some of the most sought-after lines to shop from.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
We have been fortunate and had more good luck than bad luck on our side. We both feel lucky to have each other to go through life together and that we were blessed with our four beautiful children – Alexis, Quentin, Lauren and Trinity and the support they give us to allow us to be successful business owners.
Being business owners takes a lot of time and effort and pulls us away from the house sometimes more than we would like but the kids have been understanding and help out around the house so the time we spend together we can spend doing fun family things as opposed to household chores all the time.
From the business standpoint, we are lucky to have the amazing clients that we have and the staff we have. They could’ve chosen not to stick with us when we purchased the salon but the majority of our clients and our staff came to believe in Angela and myself and what we can add to the salon.
We are lucky and/or fortunate, whatever you want to call it, to be able to Wake up every day and love our career.
