Today we’d like to introduce you to Augusto Cesar Aquino.
Augusto, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Hello my name is Augusto Cesar Aquino I am an abstract artist and my career began on the island of Puerto Rico. From a very young age I showed interest in the arts and creativity; whether it was designing clothes, writing poems or stories, writing songs, etc. After high school, I studied fashion design and began to work in the nightclubs and little by little that world was absorbing my whole being and I ended up working full time during the day working in the decorations for the different activities and began to explore my art. So much so that at the age of 19 I moved to New York City to work in the best nightclubs in Manhattan. It was there that my life took a different direction, I experienced the nightlife in NYC and all that comes with it, and I ended up being the Arts Director at one of the biggest clubs The Tunnel. I always kept a notebook with my artistic ideas until a friend told me that I had to put my artistic ideas on canvas. I had never painted on canvas before and using acrylic paints well I started and the rest is history. I have created a diary of my life through my paintings, happy times, sad times, mental journeys, poetry, romanticism, and transformation to the divine light. I lived in NYC for 12 years, then 13 years in Miami, and now 1 year in Dallas Texas. In my work, you can find traces of these cities. I’m sure that this beautiful city of Dallas TX, will inspire new ideas in me to continue creating new artistic projects. By the way, I would like to say that I want to make a live exhibition of my work.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
On the struggles, yes many of them and hard situations, and many tiers on my pillow. I was too young when left my parent’s house, arrived in NYC not knowing no one, and had no money in my pocket but my mind full of dreams. I didn’t want help from my parents I needed to show them that can make it. Living in a small low life motel and feeling lonely in NYC changes your life, after one year my heart turn cold plus a lot of excesses, Alcohol, drugs, and sex all these things that damage your life and destiny. I hit rock bottom and I lose everything respect, hope, and freedom but I never give up I keep pushing, and thanks to God and my perseverance I make it through.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Well as I mentioned before I am a creator and lover of everything that has to do with art. I am different because I live what I paint, I love to get inside the painting and deposit my feelings in it. Achievements, having been able to compete in the Art Basel France and in the Luxembourg Art Price in Switzerland. I like to write lyrics and create music with consciousness and bring positive and hopeful messages to humanity.
What does success mean to you?
For me, success is being able to use the talents God gave me to create new things. To be in harmony with the creator because that brings an inexplicable peace and a permanent joy. To see a person happy for the work you have created. These things fill me and soothe my soul.
