Today we’d like to introduce you to Charles K.
Charles, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I lost my basketball scholarship after my sophomore year in 2015. To be honest I knew this Is what I wanted to do so I jumped straight into the game no hesitation. I was a student of the game and I just wanted to inspire others like my favorites inspired me. That same year I got to link with my bro DJ Will who is from Dallas, but just finished The Smokers Club Tour with Ab-Soul and Joey Badass in LA. After I sent a couple songs, he decided to get me out there to work on a mixtape called ‘Victory for Hip-Hop’ in 2016. That’s where it started and since then I’ve dropped 3 Streaming projects including my Debut EP ‘In Due Time’ in 2019. These projects were all covered by Revolt TV, Respect Magazine, and Billboards in Time Square fully independently. That leverage led me to selling my music from my own website letting my fans “Set the Price’ on my 2020 project ‘Victory for Hip-Hop 2’. Some bought it for $50, $100, and $150. And taking that leap is what kept me going to challenge myself to perfect my role in the music game and being a global light on my city everywhere I go. This past year I was able to do 2 out of state shows in Phoenix, AZ, and Irvine, CA, and right now I’m just excited to release my 2nd Full-Length EP. I genuinely just love channeling emotions to these records. I always just wanted to make good-ass music.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Never easy. It can get lonely at times too. You’ll never escape the self-doubt and long nights on the route I took but it always ends up being worth it. Sometimes it takes adversity to build perseverance but that’s way better than sacrificing your integrity for the quick moments. I’m thankful for all those times because so matter how down I ever got I could never quit on my vision. Having people in your corner always helps too even if they’re few in number. It’s just about what you want for yourself and how far you’re willing to go for it.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Lyricism and Cadence. Versatility and I’m probably most proud that I continue to just master my lane/sound instead of following trends.
