Today we’d like to introduce you to Richard Haskins.
Hi Richard, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
I started this band when I was 15. We really had no aspirations apart from playing some shows and getting wasted. I really ended up liking the performance art side of things and writing songs. We spent a lot of time in the trenches just playing anywhere we wouldn’t get banned from and went through a ton of line-up changes through the years, but eventually got a solid crew going and some great management. Been putting out records and raising hell ever since. There’s a new one coming out this upcoming year called “Party with Us”.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Well, I did some prison time over a bank robbery attempt that’s been pretty well-documented. That put a serious damper on things for a minute. Thankfully, with the support of my friends and bandmates, I was able to get through it relatively unscathed apart from having a criminal record. But I got a lot of good songs out of it and learned a lot about life.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
When it comes to punk rock, we’re the real fucking deal. There’s no formula to it, just pure energy, and I think that sets us apart. None of the songs sound the same, but they always sound like us. We have a horn section and sometimes play with an accordion. Our shows are crazy. Lots of mosh-pits and stage diving, and spitting beer into the audience, even occasional nudity, but we’re fundamentally sound from a music standpoint. Controlled chaos, I suppose.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I sometimes run into issues with people thinking I’m the same person off stage as I am on. Like, they expect me to be walking around in panties and spitting beer on people. I can turn that on if the need presents itself, but I can also be really quiet. I enjoy dry books and boring documentaries.
