Hi Jessica, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
Hello! I’m Jessica Rice formerly Registered Dental Assistant (specialized in Orthodontics) for 18yrs and I loved to transform smiles. I’m a full-time single mother/entrepreneur to a beautiful and talented 11-year-old daughter. I started braiding hair at the age of 8 but never in a million years did I think I’d be doing other people’s hair for a living. So, I decided 10 years ago to start my Sisterslock ™️journey .and it’s been the best decision EVER! All while I went through my journey I was still working as an Orthodontic Assistant full-time and trying to establish clients as a part-time Sisterlocks Consultant on the weekends.
Working full-time and being a part-time Sisterlocks™️ consultant was starting to get a little overwhelming. It was time for me to put in place a plan to be able to be there more for my daughter who was five years old at the time. Well, the plan was put in place but fear took over and I didn’t move forward with my plan. I stayed working as an orthodontic assistant and part-time consulting with Sisterlocks. One day the Dr. I was working for gave me an ultimatum when it came to caring for my sick child. So now I’m forced me to have to go to Plan B and step out on faith and trust in God. I will definitely say when it comes to corporate America, THEY DON’T CARE!!!
My plan B worked! Thank God for having faith of the size of a mustard seed! I started running Locs of Beauty LLC full-time Oct. 27th, 2017, and never looked back. My business took off faster than I expected. It grew from 20 clients to now over 80+ clients and still growing.
I am a Certified Sisterlock™️ Consultant. I love what I do and take PRIDE in providing the best customer service there is to offer. I look forward to servicing the DFW / area with a plethora of natural hair care services.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I would definitely say NO it hasn’t been a smooth road! I believe with every successful business you will run across trials and tribulations, bumps and bruises. The struggles that I experienced along the way were, Knowing the right audience to target, setting boundaries, enforcing policies and sticking to them as well as knowing how to deal with different types of clients on an everyday basis and trying to have a balanced life.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
The advice I will give someone who’s just starting out in any business adventure would be, start off with believing in YOURSELF, write out your business plan, get a mentor, and give yourself grace when you fail. Just know not to Give Up!
I wished I would’ve known being an entrepreneur isn’t as easy as it seems to be, but it is very rewarding when you are passionate about what you do! It’s HARD WORK!
