Hidden Gems: Meet Gabi Sperry of DFW Improved

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gabi Sperry.

Hi Gabi, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I have been blessed to be a Residential Designer since 1998, specializing in Complete Home Remodels, Aging in Place Design, and Kitchen and Bath Design. I have an AA Degree in Interior Design, am a Certified Kitchen Designer with the NKBA, and a Certified Aging in Place Specialist with the NAHB. I have an amazing partnership with DFW Improved, a Design-Build Firm in Plano Texas, and by God’s Grace am the Top Producer. I cherish my career now more than ever because it was taken away for 2.5 years after my car accident. The Doctors told me that I would never be able to work again and I prayed every day for another chance. God answered my prayer, so now I work each day as though it was my last because I know what it feels like to lose everything. I sacrifice sleep to start my day early and I literally don’t clock out at night, until I absolutely have to tap out. I will never, ever take a moment for granted. The 5 months between accepting Jesus in 2014 and the moment when a car slammed into me on the freeway on April 23, 2015, were the best months in my entire life and in my marriage. Then, everything changed due to the damage caused by my car accident. I developed a long list of 18 different debilitating symptoms and was labeled as “permanently disabled” by all of the Doctors. During the 2.5 years of my rock bottom, I became pregnant and had a glimmer of something positive to look forward to. However, her heart had stopped beating before she had the chance to be born. I had to lose my career, my physical strength, my mental capacity, my emotional well-being, and ultimately our daughter to fully realize that I could not survive on my own and needed to fully surrender myself completely to Jesus. Once I did that and rebuked the medication that the Doctors prescribed me, then it was beautiful miracles upon miracles that brought my family and I to Prosper Texas, where God healed me completely.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My long list of struggles ranged from alcoholism to self-esteem issues, to the ultimate car accident. My path has not been a smooth road by any means but I am so grateful for the bumps and mountains along the way. Now that I have been at peace with who I am and have been completely sober since 2014, I can look back and see how God shaped me into the woman that I am today.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My favorite childhood memory is of seeing my parents Roberto and America Escobar, work extremely hard to provide for our family. We were immigrants from Guatemala. We went through the roughest journey imaginable for a better life. During our difficult trek to cross the border into California, my 5-year-old brother Robert, protected my sister, America, and I when we had to be separated from our mom, who was 8 months pregnant with my little brother Gari. We didn’t have a lot of money, but we were very rich with love for each other. That is where I developed my work ethic.
