Today we’d like to introduce you to Doc STRANGE.
Hi Doc, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I have been dedicated to the Hip Hop lifestyle and art form since I was 10 years old. I saw Eric B and Rakim’s “Paid in Full” video on Friday Night Videos. It turned me out and possessed me fully. I started physically rapping in high school.
I attended UNT on a Speech/Drama scholarship, so that is why I incorporate a lot of costumes and set pieces in my live shows.
I realized I could make money with this art form during the indie Texas rap boom of the early 2000s. We had Dj Screw and Swishahouse releasing independent music on a large scale, yet nobody with the Hip Hop aesthetic I saw in Rawkus, Def Jux, or Rhymesayers. That is my lane. I pursue dominance in that area of music.
Coming from the Lone Star State, I feel that adds to my unique approach.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The struggles are mostly business. Being in Texas, there is not a big music infrastructure, like L.A. or Atlanta. You have to be bicoastal, have a strong budget, outstanding product, and business acumen. All my struggles center around gaining ground in the aforementioned area.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a one-man tour de force. I make beats write, rhyme, perform, and direct videos as well.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
