Meet Dianne France of Fleurs de France in Addison

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dianne France.

Dianne, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My background is actually in the Theatre & Hospitality field, with a double major in both. After graduating I went into hospitality for a number of years. As I started my family (3 beautiful daughters) I decided to stay home with them. Once they were all in school I made the decision to go back to work outside of the home, but this time in the floral industry, as I have always loved flowers and gardening,

After deciding I wanted to get into the floral industry (without any formal training) I started knocking on doors to see if anyone was hiring someone without any previous experience. Finally, a florist said they were hiring a floral assistant, so I accepted. Being the ‘floral assistant’ really amounted to sweeping floors, doing all the processing of flowers when they first come in, cleaning the coolers and watering the plants. But it was a great learning experience from the ground up and every chance I got I watched the designers work their magic.

From there I worked for other florists where I did design as well as the buying and management of the other employees. Once I finally felt I had enough experience I took the leap of faith and started my own wedding and event floral company.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has definitely not always been a smooth road, especially first starting out. In addition to getting my wedding floral business off the ground, I also did contract work for an interior design company, to help pay the bills, until my business started showing profit.

Figuring out the best approach and method to getting the inquiries was a challenge and then getting the booking after the consultation. There were also many lessons learned along the way when it came to doing deliveries and setups as well and having to think on your feet when, during a setup, something didn’t work out quite as you had planned with the design.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Fleurs de France – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We specialize in wedding and event floral and decor. One of the areas I’m most proud of and that sets us apart is our diversity of styles. We have brides and planners come to us because they have seen the wide range of floral design we have been able to do for others. We also love to add unexpected elements into our designs whenever possible to give them a unique twist.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Our future plans are to keep building our reputation of excellence. I personally prefer to stay on the small side when it comes to a number of employees and weddings we do on a weekend. I love being able to personally get to know all of my brides and clients and oversee and have a part in all of them.
