Meet Amber Adams of The Velvet Angel Boutique

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber Adams.

Hi Amber, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
Our mission is to create a memorable visit to Downtown Waxahachie. The business took flight in 2003 and has evolved from a Canton-based roadshow business to a 2500sf store. We great guests seven days a week in the heart of Ellis County. We’re within steps of one of the most beautiful courthouses in Texas.

We strive to keep customers happy and guarantee we always have something to make you smile. Daily shipments guarantee that you’ll always find something new and fresh in stock! Choose from hundreds of clothing items, accessories, or enjoy our edgy socks, cups, & gift items. We take pride in our products including Kendra Scott Jewelry, Tyler Candles, Consuela Bags, Yellow Box Shoes, Peepers Eyewear and so much more.

Our staff is often regarded as the “Downtown Chamber of Commerce” because we love to promote our town. The favorite part of our day is telling the story of Downtown and suggesting all the great stores, restaurants, and sights visitors should not miss! We LOVE this town!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has been WORK to get to where we are. In the beginning, with a newborn son, I hustled to build the business. I started small, selling fashion jewelry with a large selection of watches. The first three years I did every craft fair and roadshow I could drive to in Texas, usually staying at friends’ homes along the way to cut expenses. In 2005 I started setting up in Canton, Texas at their Trade Days. It was four to five days every month, rain or shine, blistering hot or freezing cold, every month. The business grew and we set up and sold accessories and clothing for 12 years, never missing a single month. We missed holidays with our family, birthdays, graduations, and important moments along the way. The roadshows continued, and I eventually found a storefront in Downtown Waxahachie. Seeking more growth, I tried two other locations in Rockwall and Fort Worth but eventually realized my energy was better utilized in Ellis County. We are proud community partners and admire our city for all the effort and investment in making our town a destination. Our Downtown currently has 15 boutiques, 25+ restaurants, 6 antique stores and so much more for visitors to enjoy. I am constantly challenged to find ways to expose the awesomeness of where The Velvet Angel has landed.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about The Velvet Angel Boutique?
We are a boutique located in downtown Waxahachie. We’ve been here 15 years. We sell women’s clothing, Consuela Bags, Tyler Candles, Kendra Scott jewelry, Peepers reading glasses, hilarious socks, cups, t-shirts & caps, and so much more. We truly have something for everyone.

Our selection and availability set us apart. We are open 7 days a week. We strive to help- if you can’t find it here, we’ll help you find a place Downtown that has it!

Brand wise; Kendra Scott is our newest addition but Consuela, Tyler Candles & Wash, Peepers reading glasses, Judy Blue jeans, Yellow Box shoes, Savory cracker mixes, Invisibelts, and Burt’s Bees Lip Care are great staples!

We back our products – if you’re not happy, bring it back!

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
About 10 years ago we joined the Downtown Merchants Association. My initial goal was for my business to survive and offer a great shopping experience to customers. Along the way that changed. Soon after I realized that we are all better together. My new mission was to help create a Downtown business community where store owners were friends and neighbors and we ALL thrived. In the past five years, only a handful of businesses have closed. Our stores are successful, and we all work together to keep it going. This year we won the Mable Frame Award as an organization which recognizes those who make a positive impact on the city’s tourism industry. Our association is strong with 80+ members, we have very few building vacancies, and we have a parking problem… THAT is success! I always say, it’d be a REAL problem is we didn’t have a parking problem.
