Today we’d like to introduce you to Yvonne Hager.
Yvonne, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My passion for hair and the beauty industry started at the age of 16 when I first started taking cosmetology in high school. I have worked in many aspects in the industry including, being behind the chair, film work, editorial work, education, and salon ownership. Founded Lure Salon in 2010 and opened my newest salon Lure Co+Op in 2021.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not always been a smooth road at all. Salon ownership along with elements in my career have had its challenges at different times. Navigating business during the mandatory shutdowns and Covid restrictions definitely added new struggles for us as with all other salons. With my latest salon, building and finishing the salon had new challenges due to supply and shipping issues due to Covid. However, just like any other obstacle in life, keeping a positive and perseverance attitude helped me get through it. Now Lure Co+Op is open and is beautiful space for independent artists!
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Lure Co+Op ?
Lure Co+Op is a boutique salon designed by the renowned Swoon Studio. Swoon Studio has designed local spaces like The Virgin Hotel and Adolphus Hotel. Our goal with Lure Co+Op as compared to Lure Salon was to create a co-sharing workspace for independent artists. As members of Lure Co+Op, artists have the flexibility to book the space for half a day, to once a week to however long they want by making it their permanent workspace. It gives artists flexibility and freedom to work and use a salon space to fit their lifestyle. It’s something that fills the gap between the current choices available such as artists renting their own suite or renting a chair in an open concept salon. The concept is great for working mothers with part-time schedules, to freelance wedding hair artists, traveling hairdressers, or any hairdresser re-establishing themselves in Dallas or out of Dallas. Plus, members have access to education and support for a better sense of community.
The opportunities are limitless!
We’d love to hear about what you think about risk-taking?
I believe all business owners and entrepreneurs are willing to take risks and do so continuously. In my life and as a business owner I have taken many risks. Take for instance at the start of my career as a young stylist I was asked to do hair for a film, starting Heather Graham and Luke Wilson. Not ever doing hair on set, I took the position having no clue what was going to be expected of me. I didn’t doubt myself; I took the job and the risk of failing at it with the mindset that it would be ok and that I would grow from it. My next two biggest risks were opening Lure Salon and Lure Co+Op. I co-founded Lure Salon in 2010 after the stock market and housing crash of 2008. Leaving behind a very nice job and schedule and while I was pregnant. Some would have said it was terrible timing but taking the risk to open the salon, although hard has led to many successful careers and 12 years in the business. Lure Co+Op was founded in the midst of a pandemic after salon shutdowns and no real idea how life for salons would be. We took the risk in opening then because we saw the opportunity to grow and create something new. My perspective on risk-taking is this…you have to take risks to keep moving forward and to grow. You can’t be afraid to fail.
