Life & Work with Israel Madrigal

Today we’d like to introduce you to Israel Madrigal.

Hi Israel, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Started DJing around the age of 20 after high school and through college. It all started out as a hobby and followed in the footsteps of my older brother. It wasn’t until years after college that I started taking DJing seriously. After being in the Dallas club scene for a number of years I decided to enter a DJ contest put on by RadioDjs and the Kidd Kraddick Morning Show. I was chosen as one of the winners from the North Texas area and became one of the DJs that provided the Flush The Format mixes aired all over the country. I spent a couple of years working with the Kidd Kraddick Morning Show which gave me countless opportunities and opened many doors, one of them being getting introduced to performing at private and corporate events.

The following years was spent working hard on my craft, learning new skills, and marketing myself all over the DFW area. I focused on building my brand on social media, posting quality content, and kept working on improving my skills. I was fortunate enough to get noticed by my peers and was blessed to get featured on Pitbull’s Globalization SiriusXM channel as well as the Dj City Latino podcast. Shoutout to Danny west and Santarosa for those two great opportunities that are huge in the Dj community. Getting featured on a national platform like SiriusXM and Dj City was a huge accomplishment for me but I didn’t want to get complacent so I decided to do something I’ve always wanted to do, I started entering Dj battles.

I’ve been in a handful of battles in my career by this time but always finished 2nd or 3rd. That really motivated me, especially through the quarantine, made me practice and focus a little more. When I got word that TXR in Fort Worth was hosting the Come & Take It Dj Battle, I decided to enter it. There was a bunch of talented DJs competing from all over Texas and I was fortunate enough to win it! The following year 2021, El Chingon decided to throw another battle that was even bigger. Again, I decided that the biggest and best DJs would be competing so I wanted to challenge myself once again. This was the most challenging one I have done to date consisting of many rounds and some of the dopest DJs in the area. Thanks to God I came out on top once again.

That really got my name out there and gave me even greater opportunities. I’ve been traveling to perform at different cities like New York, San Diego, Austin, Los Angeles, and Las Vegas just this year. I felt like all that work finally paid off, and here at home was no exception. One such opportunity was me getting hired on to be a mix show Dj on Klub KISS which airs Saturday nights on 106.1 KISS FM from 12 am-1 am. Another huge opportunity was being added to the Dj City, Beatsource team, the biggest, baddest record pools in the game. Thank you, Phenom, Danny West, and Dazzler, among many others, for that opportunity!

So now I’m working on even bigger things with great people all around Dallas/Fort Worth. You can catch me all around the DFW area at your favorite clubs and bars. You can catch the Bassjunkies and myself providing the beats before each and every FC Dallas home games. You can even have me, my partner Nate Acosta, and all of our DNA Event Services team come perform at your event. Just visit our website www.dnaeventservices.com for more details.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s always been hard for me because I’m my worst critic. I’ve spent so much time dedicating myself to this craft and people just think it’s about playing music when there is so much work that happens behind the scenes you don’t get to see. It’s been hard especially in 2020 when our whole industry shut down. I was fortunate enough to work at a hospital throughout quarantine so that made things better for me and my family but I know others were hurting. Everything getting back to normal and people feeling better about going out and enjoying themselves has definitely helped, but like I mentioned before I want to keep getting better at what I do so it’s a constant struggle for me, but I love what I do so I don’t mind it.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Been DJing for over 20 years, been doing it professionally for a little over 10 years I believe. I really don’t have a specialty; I pride myself in being able to perform in many settings. Included are concerts, clubs, bars, weddings, birthday parties, you name it and I have probably done it. I’m most proud of my family, my kids, but I’m doing okay in the DJ business. I think my creativity and my ability to play music from all genres and making it enjoyable to the crowd is what sets me apart. As I grow, I catch myself playing a wider selection of music in my sets, especially in the last couple of years.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
My work ethic is what has provided the most results. All the credit has to go to all my family for this, they taught me hard work pays off. They have shown me through the years how to work hard, work smart and work towards achieving your goals.
