Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Ratrice Jackson.
Hi Dr. Jackson, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
Hi! My name is Dr. Ratrice Jackson and I am an advocate, author, leader, and pediatric dentist born and raised in Little Rock, Arkansas. I am extremely passionate about helping others realize their greatest potential!
Lack of complimentary dental clinics, children without dental care, adults who cannot afford their dental visit—in my home state, Arkansas, I have seen first-hand these disparities that exist within the United States. Growing up in a state without a dental school, I am reminded daily of America’s specific need for selfless, fun-filled individuals who possess a steadfast desire to aid others.
Growing up in Little Rock, Arkansas, though I had hopes of becoming a dentist, adversity kept knocking at my doorsteps. Have you ever been faced with adversity? How did you overcome it? God allowed me to reach over twelve years of school including: receiving my Undergraduate Degree, Master of Health Sciences Degree, Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree, and Advanced Education in Pediatric Dentistry.
My thoughts led to “Why would God instruct me that this is the path for me if I was not meant to get there?”
We all have those moments of doubt when things don’t look great, right? When there is monetary value on the line when your health is on the line when you struggle. So that is why I knew WHEN I graduated to become a Pediatric Dentist, I wanted to turn my adversity into hope by sharing my story to motivate others through writing a book!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road! Being an African American woman from Little Rock, Arkansas where there is a shortage of a dental school, I believe, makes my story unique. I have endlessly pursued opportunities and often encountered hardship. Struggles I have faced includes being told “You Can’t”. Being told “you can’t” come in different forms. That includes experiences, other’s belief on your goal, what statistics show, or even that little voice in the back of your head. Let’s face it, we all have experienced this to some capacity. What I have learned throughout my many struggles is that I have the final say on what I believe to kick the “T” off of the “Can’t”. For me, once I realized what all I could overcome by changing my mindset and believing “You Can”, my situation started to appear differently. This is not to say, I never experienced anymore adversity, but what I have learned—has been a secret discovery to becoming the best version of myself.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I very excited to share! I am a pediatric dentist which is a dentist for kids! 🙂 My office is located in Irving, Texas named “Texas Tiny Teeth Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics” I would love to be your kid’s dentist as I see kids from the ages of 0-18 years old!
I am known for my super bubbly, energetic, positive personality! I am most proud of being able to touch lives of many individuals within my community and communities abroad! I believe what sets me apart from others is being able to use my gifts that God has given me to better not only myself but others!
Hence, I am the author of “Of Course, You Can’t”! My book is a motivational guide to becoming the best version of yourself!
I know you’re wondering—what is my book about? Somewhere between hope and fulfilling a dream is someone questioning if they can do it. If you ever had this thought or simply wondered if you were alone in your journey—Of Course, You Can’t is the book for you! The process of getting to where you want to go is never easy, rarely quick, but it is possible. I am here to tell you that even in your wildest dreams, there’s someone that looks like you that had the same hope and it led them to the unimaginable. I am that someone. Of Course, You Can’t teaches leaders, professionals, and young adults how to pursue your vision with faith and determinations. No matter how bad your situation may look, no matter how many times you miss your goal, just keep pushing forward!
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up, I was extremely determined and passionate! If I had a goal, I always wanted to assure that I was prepared, punctual and gave 1000% each time. Any time someone would see me, one would note that I am always smiling! I love smiling. Not just because I am a dentist 🙂 but, I grew up always smiling and finding the good in each situation. I believe this kept me going and still does! I have always attained an interest for what kept me feeling joy on the inside. Usually, what keeps me joyful is delivering a positive act of kindness for someone. All in all, growing up really pushed and motivated me to become and make a positive difference in the world. Being just a country girl from Arkansas, I knew that God had so much planned for me. I continued to believe and followed God’s path for my life while remaining true to myself.
