Today we’d like to introduce you to Folah Ojo. Them and their team share their story with us below:
Born and raised in Baltimore, Folah at a young age developed a deep love for art that transformed from poetry to violin and piano to music, fashion, and podcasting. When she was younger, she struggled to focus in school due to bullying and poo-self-image that eventually led to deep depression, anxiety, and suicidal thoughts from traumatic experiences. Finding God has been her hope and saving grace. In elementary school, she was told from a teacher that she would be a star and has carried that God-dream since releasing her first song “Clarity”, her next single releasing in June “All that”, along with the Holy Soul podcast. Now she cannot imagine her star stage being built and only her shining. Folah is a holy soul filled with the fire of faith and lighting that same fire in her fans called holy souls. This is exactly what makes her unique and distinguishable from the crowd: her ethereal essence, her distinct vocal timbre, and her overall vibe and energy. Developing her style on stage with several live performances at gigs and festivals she is determined to propel her artistry to the next level while aiming to get her name out on an international scale.
With an increasingly busy schedule since she’s planning on releasing an EP, Folah is beginning to cement herself as one of the US’s most exciting talents in years.
Using her lyrics to touch the hearts of people, she hopes to spread her message of healing from private pains from depression, anxiety, heartbreak, and trauma as a whole in today’s contemporary society.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The biggest challenge has been the relationship with my mind. I had the habit of assuming the worst scenario which created anxiety, isolation, and depression that made constantly feel weak and undeserving. I would undermine myself a lot and this distorted my vision and perceptive for a long time. I wrote about this in my song ’Clarity’ about the challenges that I faced and how clarity was really what I needed. I needed a new perspective, better thinking of me and I think we can all agree that sometimes how we see gets in the way of chasing the God-dream. Writing helped me see those challenges more than ever, even when I was 9, I wrote a book about hope through difficult circumstances, and even since 13 writing songs. There’s an African proverb “don’t look where you fell, but look where you slipped”. So, for anyone reading this, you have to look where you slipped before praying for solutions.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am focused on music and bettering my skills from the production, songwriting, and singing aspect. I am currently working on an EP release for the fall of this year, I can’t wait to share it with the world. I also have the holy soul podcast that is a solution center dedicated to helpful tips and tools that I’m learning in my artistry then sharing it with my audience. I have a purpose of healing the world with my voice from music, ministry, to podcasting and writing. What sets me apart from others is my message on the importance of individuality, I believe better individuals breeds better communities and eventually a better world. In the near future, I would also be releasing books to help our daily journeys and merchandise for the holy souls to represent in their worlds as I do in mine.
What matters most to you? Why?
What matters most to me is God being pleased with all I do. While my purpose is to heal the world with my voice, I know all of my contributions would be in vain if in the end, God wasn’t happy with me. After experiencing so much pain and seeing others go so much trauma, and while therapy and self-help books are great-they all don’t compare to the creator of all who gave His son to give us all the opportunity of eternal life. This realization of God has healed my heart and through this relationship that I have with God, it helps me to bring much value and love to people in and within my reach.
