Rising Stars: Meet Elijah Thomas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elijah Thomas.

Hi Elijah, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?

It all started when I was 19. I was sitting in a room with two of my friends Jay Shep and Nello. Jay Shep was working on content for his media company, Talented Ones, so he wanted me and Nello to do our interviews. During that time, I was known as an upcoming rapper at Sam Houston State. Being a producer was something that was stalled because my beat lessons were “postponed”. To be transparent, I didn’t have confidence in applying what I learned in the past years.

Yet, I have a way of calling myself out and challenging myself to be greater than who I am. I looked at Nello directly and said, “I want to be your producer. You can use my beats for free and you can put music out whenever, cool?”

“Bet.” And just like that, I retired from being a rapper and became a producer.

The run of me solely being a producer would be short-lived because I love calling myself out with challenges, remember? From 19 to 22, I knew I could sing but that confidence was lacking significantly. However, I would not be satisfied until I gave the world an opportunity for them to experience something for the first time: my very own music.

During those three years, I would deepen my current friendships with Jay Shep and Nello and make new lifelong connections with Ty Deandre, Pat, and Casso. The simple reason I bring these guys up is that they were essential in the creation of Pink. They motivated me to be honest in my music and make that (insert what you like) go hard!

On February 28th, 2020, I broke my shell and released my first EP entitled “Pink”, and it was received well by friends, colleagues, parents, and grandparents. My confidence soared from that day and has grown exponentially since 2020.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
“Journey over Destination”.
This journey for me as an artist has been more challenging than a lot of my other life experiences. In hindsight, I am glad that I chose to invest in myself over everything else. I have lost money, sleep, relationships with family, friends, and dating opportunities behind devoting massive amounts of time behind my craft. Losing those things is not easy. In fact, they’re painful because I cannot explain or lessen my ambition for making my dream a reality.  As cynical as it may sound, there is beauty to all the madness. The beauty is reaching my destiny and becoming a vessel to someone in the world for inspiration to be fearless and chase their dream, whatever it may be.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a producer, singer, and songwriter. I am most proud of what I’ve done as a producer and singer. Ultimately, what separates me as a creative is that I can produce and sing. Essentially, all I need is an engineer in the studio.

I can handle the rest.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
Stream all my music and never be afraid to be yourself. People will respect you, and will possibly love you more for who you are instead of being something else or even worse, lost.
