Daily Inspiration: Meet Jose Garcia

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jose Garcia.

Hi Jose, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started making beats when I was 17 years old. I was making beats to rap to at first and eventually stopped rapping at age 21 to make beats because I enjoyed doing it so much. I eventually got into making beats for a couple local rappers and mixing, mastering, and producing songs for local artists. I’m still actively working with artists in Dallas and playing all the shows I can.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I lived on homies couches when I was younger to pay cheaper rent so I could work less and make more beats. I didn’t utilize social media as I should have and always thought people would just find my music lol, I was wrong. But I continued to make it by and work on music any chance I got.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a beat maker. I create boom-bap lo-fi hip hop music. I’m known for my taste in samples. People wanna know what records these samples come from… but they will have to find them to find out lol I’m very proud of being involved in the culture of hip hop and appreciate all the love, respect, and support I’ve been shown throughout my journey in hip hop.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
My first memory of music. My pops gave me a Walkman that had a cassette tape in it. I don’t remember what that tape was and I’ll always wonder… but I remember that tape slappin lol
