Life & Work with Marvin Dejon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marvin Dejon.

Hi Marvin, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
I am a creative Swiss army knife that is well versed in writing, directing, acting, producing, editing, you name it I do it, except graphics and music, I know my limits. I was trained in acting at KD Studio in the early 2000s and over the last nearly two decades I have honed my skills in writing, directing, and producing. I originally began producing stage plays in the late 20o0’s (The Dating Pool, Love Don’t Live Here Anymore) under the moniker, Nivram Productions, this continued until 2013 when I stopped doing plays to focus on film. After some time to study I started and transition my brand, I began doing web series in the mid-2010s with my series Grey and No+1, both available on YouTube. Then after a partnership dissolution in 2018, I became a solo filmmaker who takes a script from initial concept to post-production. My newest project, Ambition, is a feature film about two filmmakers struggling to obtain funding, then finding funding in the most unlikely way, and doing everything in their power to get the money and maintain their freedom. Ambition will be available on streaming platforms in late 2022.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has in no way been a smooth road for me. Over the years I’ve partnered with many people and it has never worked out, so I’ve changed my view on partnerships and working relationships as it pertains to working in the film and entertainment industry. In this time, I’ve chosen to take on the lion’s share of the work, which comes with its own roadblocks and challenges, but in life, you choose your headaches, and solo filmmaking is the headache for me. I wish someone had told me earlier that in life you never escape obstacles, you just have to choose the obstacles you don’t mind dealing with.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a writing filmmaker who follows the auteur theory of filmmaking by overseeing the entire process of creating the film from initial concept to post-production. I specialize in dark comedy and drama, but I also go outside my genres to write works for other producers and creatives in the area. I am most proud of my feature-length projects coming out soon, Ambition and Lovers Revenge. Lovers Revenge was initially a series that has now been turned into a feature, we just wrapped production on it so it I’ll be coming into the world very soon. I believe what sets me apart as a filmmaker is the fact that I hand crafted the largest majority of what is seen on screen when you watch one of my projects.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Be patient and trust your process. Everyone gives advice these days, but not everyone’s process will be the same, so don’t follow trends or the advice of the most popular guru, find your personal process and stick to it.
