Today we’d like to introduce you to Ivy Edwards.
Hi Ivy, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always wanted to be a nurse since I was a little girl, but God had other plans for me. I learned how to braid hair when I was eight years old. All of my dolls’ hair would be styled by me. It was enjoyable, but I never imagined it would be a career option for me as I grew up. So, I knew I wanted to be a nurse even when I was in high school. As a side hustle, I would style my friends’ hair, but I realized that wasn’t my long-term objective. I enrolled in college to become a nurse after graduating from high school, and here I am again mentioning this nursing program. Even after all of that, you can see. I didn’t seem pleased with myself for some reason. Unfortunately, I dropped out. I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do next, but I knew the nursing program wasn’t for me. I eventually found work in corporate America. Which was fine, but it didn’t make me happy. Sometimes the job route you choose isn’t what you expected. It’s the long-ago vision that God gave you. I was still working in a corporate position when I relocated to Texas in 2014. Because that seemed to be the only option for me. Despite the fact that I had the necessary skills to operate behind the chair. So, one day at work, a group of women said that they needed their hair done. So, of course, I informed them that I am available to assist them. Before you knew it, I was promoting my work across all social media networks. I was doing it at home at the time. At times, it seemed a touch unprofessional. I needed to get started someplace. In 2016, all it took was one person to call me and give me a chair in their salon. I accepted the position despite the fact that I was still employed full-time. I continue to dismiss myself and place my passion last. My boss fired me in 2017 because she realized God had bigger plans for me. I become a full-fledged professional. Interacting with other individuals is one of my favorite things to do. fast forward in the year 2022, I am the owner of Candi Coated Tresses in Arlington, Texas. In the year 2020, I became a salon owner. I’ve seen women in the beauty industry who want to grow but don’t know where to start. So, after instructing the women in my salon on how to increase their clients, I made the decision to diversify my income. Coaching is not the same as being a nurse, but it is a means for me to help people in the world. As a result, my company assists beauty specialists on how to build their brand behind the chair. Taking things one day at a time. I started a foundation call “ Bosses Wear Heelz “. The foundation is for woman trying to grow in their purpose but don’t know how to start or even continue when they start. I’ll be hosting my 2nd event July 23rd in Grand Prairie Texas . Woman and vendors will be able to purchase tickets online www.bosseswearheelz.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it wasn’t always easy, and there were times when I felt like giving up. At first, the money wasn’t always the same. It inspired me to return to work in the business sector. As a result, I’ll know how much money I’m making.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
My company assists women in the beauty sector in developing their brands. Many women graduate from cosmetology school but are unsure where to begin. As a result, my company develops a business strategy plan to assist women in their development.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
If you’re in the beauty industry, I’d advise you not to give up because you can’t see a way to advance. You didn’t put in the time and effort to fail, so get a coach to help you progress. As a result, never give up on this adventure.
