Meet April Campbell

Today we’d like to introduce you to April Campbell.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I grew up in the small town of Lancaster, TX where I watched my father do whatever was necessary to achieve his dream of owning his own business. I watched my mom worked multiple jobs to help support my father’s dream, which eventually became a successful reality. I dreamed of going to college and having a career in healthcare because growing up, I rarely saw any medical professionals who were African American like I was. I did achieve my dream and went to college at Langston University where I studied Biology and after went to Trevecca Nazarene University where I received my Master’s in Medicine in Physician Assistant Studies. After working in healthcare at the county hospital, I saw a need for quality housing in under-served communities. Therefore, I worked overtime and picked up extra shifts to save money to buy four duplexes where I would rent to homeless individuals and recent parolees. I continued to balance my career in healthcare, twenty years now. I worked through Covid working 12-to-15-hour days. During this time, I saw the mental strain of not only myself but also of essential workers through this time. This is when I started to research ideas of ways to decrease the stress in the stressful times of Covid. I researched existing businesses that offered this stress relief I was looking for myself and came across Massage Chair Bus Tours. I purchased this budding company and the rest is history in the making.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I have had many hurdles in the time I have owned the business, from staff turnover, replacing engines, etc., however, I would not change one part of the journey I’ve had. The challenges I have faced has shown me that perseverance, determination, and passion for success will continue to lead me to my goal of building a legacy for my children.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I have a professional career as a Physician Assistant. I have been working full-time for 20 years in this profession. What sets me apart from others are the words of my father. When I graduated, he told me to always treat each patient I see as if they are my family member, and the moment, I quit doing that is the need to get out of providing healthcare. With all my business ventures, I still have a passion for my profession and remain a full-time position.

What do you think about happiness?
What makes me most happy is when I walk through my front door and my two children, Cameron and Kendall greet me as no one but Mommy. When I leave my house each day, I am April, the PA, April the real estate investor, April the business owner, etc. However, when I return home, I’m just Mommy. This is my comfort and safe haven and I would give up everything I have to never lose this.
