Inspiring Conversations with LaTonia Cole of Intertwine Couture

Today we’d like to introduce you to LaTonia Cole.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My crochet journey started at the age of 12. I learned the basic stitches and techniques from a family friend and eventually taught myself how to read patterns to expand my crochet knowledge. I began crocheting as a hobby, gifting family and friends at holidays and special events, but in 2019, my wonderful husband allowed me the opportunity to turn my hobby into a business. I currently have a booth in Mesquite, TX and I participate in monthly artisan events in Farmersville, Garland, and Quinlan. My goal is to eventually have my own brick-and-mortar boutique, where I sell items and fulfill custom orders.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The art of crocheting has been a breeze for me. Since I began at such an early age, it has become like second nature. But transitioning from a hobbyist to a small business owner has had its complications. Being a seasoned artist, I didn’t grow up in the social media era, and although working in higher education as an administrator has allowed me to perfect my computer skills, I struggle with the marketing aspect of my business. How to leverage social media platforms has been my main focus to help further my success.

We’ve been impressed with Intertwine Couture, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Intertwine Couture is a small business that specializes in custom, handmade crochet apparel, accessories, and home décor. I sell products through my online website, various artisan markets, and a retail booth in Mesquite, TX. What sets my brand apart from other artists is the custom personalization I try to offer each client in creating wearable merchandise according to their fashion lifestyle.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
By referrals, placing personal orders, or an occasional recognition of my work on social media are all ways people can support me. I’m open to collaborating with other small business owners, as we can help each other take our businesses to the next level.
