Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniel Alvarez Jr.
Hi Daniel, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
I’m Daniel “Deej” Alvarez. You can just call me DJ. I am the founder of entertainment company Noise Republic of Texas (aka NoiseROT)
I committed to music at an early age. Playing in bands by the time I was 15 and gigging shortly after. I was blessed with a supportive family and basically spent most of my life at shows, practicing constantly at home, playing shows, and even throwing house shows by the time I was a freshman in high school.
I learned early on that I have a knack for getting to know people, curating events, and being a proper host to not only the parties directly involved, but to everyone who’s ever attended any event of mine.
Fast forward to the pandemic.
For the first time in my life, I was at a complete stop. My bar venue- The Post at River East couldn’t provide any live music so I wasn’t seeing concerts, I didn’t have any gigs, and while I did focus on more studio work at home, the reality of all the live music in my life was gone. It was daunting, to say the least.
Here I am, a college dropout with 10 years of bartending/bar managing experience stuck at home (like many others) having to worry about if anything was gonna be “normal” again. The silver lining in it all was being able to “breath” and evaluate my life and weigh out what is important to me. For the first time, I saw how the past decade of work was self-induced tunnel vision. There was a brief stint of being homeless in my younger 20’s so I just became a reliable workhorse over the years and for my SI friends, you know how demanding and ludicrous the Service Industry can be.
So, I decided to do what I do best, Bring people together. At this time, I was working exclusively through Aeronotiqz and with my best friend Dizzi Davis. So, I decided to host a free DIY/mixed genre/art & music festival called Chill Sounds & Breakdowns. The first rendition was an awesome house show, but the second year far exceed what I originally imagined. August 2021 was incredibly hot, but this didn’t stop the 400+ in attendance from coming out, throwing down, and having a great time. It was remarkable.
Shortly after my time with Aeronotiqz & AeroLifeShows, I decided to venture on my own and build an entertainment company in my personal vision. Bringing into the fold some of the best people I know. Osiel Martinez, Bernice Olmos, and Edward Oropeza. This decision was a no-brainer and since then NoiseROT has gotten to work with acts like Kurt Travis, Donovan Melero, Will Wood, Saint Blonde, Distinguisher, Guerrilla Warfare, and many more. Not to mention all the amazing local Texas bands, videographers, photographers, and basically all the talented individuals I’ve surrounded myself throughout the years. I believe my time in our music community and skillset thus far is all coming full circle finally.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Nothing Is perfect and that’s great!
My CS&B festival was out of my own pocket in order to ensure it being a free event for the public. So, the thousands of dollars I put into it was earned from working hard every day behind the bar which took months of saving and planning.
I’m rather well-rounded on perspectives when it comes to getting acts/people on the same page to make a show happen, but I’ve done this by myself for a long time so being the door guy, the promoter, and providing my personal gear for backlines, accommodating people’s personal schedules, strategically understanding and manipulating the “Show Flow” and other numerous tasks is always a lot to handle. Not to mention remembering to eat, sleep, and work on my own time too.
Other than these things, booking and promoting shows has thankfully always been a workflow I understand and persevere through. Glad to say I haven’t had too much in the universe work against me during this time.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
So, I have a few hats that I wear on the day-to-day.
I specialize in connecting with people, and Old Fashions, and I’m proud of my “head in the clouds” mentality.
First off, I am the bar manager at The Post at River East in Fort Worth, TX. I recently won the reader’s choice award for “Mixologist of Tarrant County 2021”. With 10 consistent years under my belt, I’m technically a master of the craft but have SO much more to learn.
I spearhead NoiseROT as the Senior Talent Buyer and Promoter. Working out the details, ideals, and vision of every show that we end up working on prior to and Day-of-show.
I run a home studio in Fort Worth, TX where I’ve worked on full productions and editorial work with friends and artists including- Dizzi Davis, Ryker Hall, Dusty Calcote, Yung Sativa, Giles, and more.
I’ve also recently started a YouTube series called Rotted Roots Sessions. Basically, we bring in local Texas artists into one of the many studios I know around Texas and provide Visual & Audio work. They perform, I talk their heads off about their artistry, and we have an incredible time. Its concept I’ve seen done really well elsewhere and I’ve been wanting to bring a localized version to DFW for years and finally have!
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
