Exploring Life & Business with Rahim Handy of Clear Motion Films

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rahim Handy.

Hi Rahim, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I wasn’t always a visual producer and director but I fell in love with filmmaking in the 90s with skits we would create on VHS with friends. From then I started touring with artists like Naughty by Nature with my brother Kasim Samad (MADD BASS) across the United States on MINI Dv from 2006-2008. In 2010 I was able to purchase my own camera (canon hv30) HDV and then I was able to get into DSLRs to capture video. I thought at this point I was at the top of my career. I started film school at The University of Texas – Arlington. During that time, I was operating my production company alone while attending full-time classes. I moved to California and worked as a Production Manager for US Army Reserves Yellow Ribbon program and introduced high-level video production to deploying and returning soldiers and their family members over the time there. When I returned back to Dallas I got back into the film program at UT-Arlington where film veteran Bart Weiss pushed me to focus on documentaries. This opened me up into looking at everyday life as a documentary which allowed me to package up videos for so many brands and churches. Then veteran filmmaker Norry Niven decided he would offer a commercial class at UT-Arlington. The problem with that was this class was on Saturday 8-4 and I was traveling from D.C. every week working. That’s when Bart Weiss told me “Rahim, I know you and I can assure you that this will change your life.” He was very right for sure. I didn’t know at that moment but from there it turned into addy & Clio awards for commercial videos. I also got to push my career further with advertising agencies located here in Dallas. Which allowed me to work with brands from South West Airlines all the way to Lockheed Martin. I’m currently on post-production with my documentary The Dream Chaser about the artist Lil Snupe who was killed 7 days after his 18th birthday. One thing I always keep at the front of my mind is real work will work. I put in so much work behind the camera. Lighting, sound, camera, and editing. I know what’s going on during a video production I don’t have to guess nor do I have to always figure it out because I spent so much time just getting ready in the passenger seat.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The biggest takeaway I can offer on this experience is that without pushing my skills and talent further I never would have flourished when I met my opportunity. You see success comes when talent meets the right opportunity. When you don’t see past the glass ceiling, we out over ourselves you’ll hit it so hard and won’t be able to level up to reach your full potential. A lot of the time I would think I’m where I need to be not realizing there was always somewhere else to go. Even now where I’m currently at I see where I’m headed and I know there is more places that are beyond that.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Clear Motion Films?
Clear Motion Films LLC has established a deep connection in the both the Atlanta and Dallas market with business partners Rahim Handy and Dominic Fondon. We’ve been able to provide visuals for commercial broadcasts as well as broadcast television shows. Our motto is Be Clear – Be Creative – Be Different. We are known for Documentary work with Lyfe Jennings & Yella Beezy. We also worked for Time-Life on creating the bonus DVD for the original tv show Dallas rerelease. Also, Rahim was the personal visual producer for the late great Bishop Omar Jahwar and now is the Visual Producer for Dallas Non-Profit the Urban Specialists product of short docs that inspire change in our communities. Key moments that stand out start with the time I took a 40-day tour with a group addressing homelessness. I filmed so many stories about people who were surviving and hadn’t lost hope. I also toured across the United States capturing the Heal America Tour where Bishop Omar Jahwar connected so many people who to this day are still collaborating to create change. I’m there I’m the front row capturing these stories.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
You really have to remain focused and stay consistent. That’s the main thing I can tell anyone to remember besides not to think you know all the answered especially when you haven’t put the time in to figure out what you don’t already know.
