Life & Work with Christina Tatum

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christina Tatum.

Hi Christina, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is a Christina but my stage name is ST1NNA. I’ve always been into arts and crafts. I loved playing instruments growing up. My favorite was the flute. But on the other hand, I’ve always loved writing too. My mom used to make my sisters and I write summaries over books that she read. For example, she made us write to “I know why the Caged Bird sings”, which changed my entire life. The part where she muted herself because she thought she killed a man. Since then, I wrote anything I could get my hands on. Essays for schools, papers for friends, and then I started writing my own poetry book when I was at UTA in 2017/2018. It took me two years to publish. It’s titled “Writer’s Block; A Book of Poetry.” Since then, I’ve written another book titled “Thoughts of a Moonchild Pt. 1”. I’ve also started performing poetry all over Dallas. My favorite places so far have been “Pop Up DFW” hosted by Black Ceasar on Wednesdays, Snookie’s on Fridays hosted by Wayne Henry, and Crimzon Rootz hosted by Lady Rae.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has absolutely not been a smooth road. I’ve battled and still continue to battle with if I’m on the right track and if I’m fulfilling my destiny. Am I inspiring somebody? While still staying inspired myself. I’ve struggled with drinking in the past because I feel so intensely and was not sure or even knew where to channel that energy to. Well, I didn’t, now I use my poetry. It’s like therapy for me. Any time I get overwhelmed or a feeling I don’t understand, I write about it. I’d rather it be on the piece of paper than on me, in my mind, whatever the case may be.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a poet, author, and creative genius. I’ve written three books so far and I’m working on my fourth. I’ve performed a plethora of poems all over Dallas and will continue to do that. I specialize in writing. It’s something that’s always been mad easy for me. It’s never taken too much out of me to write a short story, an essay, or a paper as long as I have a reference or book next to me to read and learn the material. I’m currently working on another book actually which I’m very happy about. If I can stay on time with it, I should be done by March 2023 but I want it to be perfect so don’t quote me on that. I’m always writing new material, whether it be poetry, a page or two, a script, a skit for IG, just continuously dropping content so my name & face isn’t forgotten.

We love surprises, fun facts, and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I’m a very shy and sensitive person. I’m sensitive to almost everything and you wouldn’t know that unless you’re very close to me or have known me for a long time. But I love to have a great time and bring life to the party or any event that I’m in because we here for a good time, not a long time right? Lol.

One fun fact? I can draw, like on the lowest of keys. Another fun fact is that I’m a huge movie buff. I love love love movies. Boomerang, Love Jones, Big Fish, How to Lose a Guy in 10 days and The Notebook are just a few of my faves. Wanna “Woo” me, that’s another fave movie of mine, pick out a dope show/movie and watch it with me. Easy 5 stars
