Daily Inspiration: Meet Alex Magee

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex Magee.

Hi Alex, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Most definitely, it’s funny because growing up I was so set on playing sports & just wanting to be a walk-on basketball player. One event can definitely change a person’s life outlook as one injury did with mine. In my freshman year of college at UNT, I lightly fractured my right ankle and was on crutches for at least 6 months. A friend of mine knew I was getting depressed and asked me to come to visit him in Los Angeles, unknowing to me he had this plan to ingratiate me into the Hollywood group. Started off working as a PA for a production company that had a running contract with Disney, fast forward I’m promoted to 2nd Ad, and I’m styling my model best friend for castings, running lines with my actor best friend, after a while, it became a normal routine.

I spent every summer while in college taking risks out in Los Angeles and have just kept my foot on the gas, I look forward to people finding out more and exactly how some of the opportunities in my life have been landed.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Oh no, not at all! I can say I’ve been overly lucky no matter if it knowing someone or someone knowing me from previous work or connections. I can honestly say I still have a way to go to accomplish my goals, but one major challenge for me was in 2016 when I moved back to Dallas from LA, 1 realizing I’m no longer in the mecca market where I can go on 30 castings a day and have work available when needed. I had to re-study the Dallas market and find where my niche would fit, even with the success that’s an everyday thing.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a creative director & creative consultant as far as titles go but that’s only that, a title. Along this journey I’ve had the lucky and earned opportunities to model, style, script writes, set direct, curate, music score, and just overall create. So, it’s always “all hands on deck” with me, you can never be too high on the scale to not get your hands dirty.

On the consulting side, I work with various music artists & brands, each client or “Twin” as I say has different needs and I do my best to fill those. I’m mainly known for being the mystery man/ glue that tends to make things fall into place. No matter if that’s directing a fashion show’s setup and layout or modeling for a brand and consulting on what photos would best connect with what audience.

On the directing side, I’ve had the pleasure of A&Ring with promising young artists, wrote treatments for music videos you may have seen, and spent about 1.5 years working on the Disney campus in Burbank which was very beneficial as I was a sponge, & all of these moments plus more have led to what I’m most proud of which is consistently getting better as a curator/creative overall and also putting out content that matches the growth.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I am a huge PC gaming nerd, or just gaming/live streaming anything in that space I know people would be surprised how deep I am into it
