Today we’d like to introduce you to Toni Duncan.
Toni, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
In 2000, I was laid off from my job and friends & family members started asking me to do various things for them while I wasn’t working.
I thought to myself, I should be able to make money running errands for people. I began to do research and at that time larger companies were using concierge companies as incentive programs for their employees. It was more of a luxury service in the minds of most people.
So, I started building a website and outlined things that I thought people would need. Here I am, 17 years later in the business. Is still going really well.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, by no means has it been smooth. As with any business, I have faced challenges with building clientele, as well as maintaining dependable staff.
The first five years were the toughest, it began to get a little easier after then as people began to recognize the brand and that we were still in business.
Lifting the Burden Errand & Concierge Service – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Lifting the Burden basically does the things that people just do not have time to do.
We run errands, deliver cakes, provide waiting services for repair people & installations, grocery shopping, provide personal assistant services, relocation services, and just this year added travel. We can plan a night out for couples, friends as plan a full-blown trip.
I am most proud of the quality of service that we provide. We are reliable, punctual and respectable. Clients can rely on LTB as if they were relying on their best friend. Not only that, we have been built a nice portfolio of corporate clients to include: corporate housing, design firms, executives, equities and acquisition companies.
What sets Lifting the Burden apart is our longevity in the industry. We are approaching 17 years, we know the ends and outs of the business and we are continuously integrating technology in our business model so that it is more convenient for our clients to do business with us.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I think the proudest moment has been making the 10-year mark and having a great balance of corporate clients and loyal individual clients. Not only that, but having a great staff that is loyal and dedicated to serving our clients.
