Community Highlights: Meet Titi Adebiyi of T’ Ary Styles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Titi Adebiyi.

Hi Titi, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
In a nutshell, fashion is my passion! I remember growing up, everyone in my family called me “the fashionista” as I was their wardrobe consultant and personal shopper. While studying Law at the university (back in Nigeria), I decided to turn my passion into a business by sourcing and selling imported wear and accessories in my “mobile boutique” (pretty much the trunk of my car). My siblings live in the UK, so I spent most of my long holidays with them and when it was time for me to go back to school, I would buy clothes, fashion accessories, and bags from the UK, with some of the money I got a gift, and sell to my colleagues and friends. I made some money from the mobile boutique and then expanded into selling 18 karat gold earrings, necklaces and bracelets. I had the best time of my life selling and saving for my future. I truly loved being independent and seeing the business grow.

However, I had to take a rest from entrepreneurship to focus on Law school as my priority at the time was to get certified and called to the Nigerian Bar as a Barrister at Law. It felt like a part of me was buried but I had to get my education completed. After I graduated from law school, I went on to get a master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA Human Resource Mgt) from Glyndwr University, UK. After completing my degree, I worked as an HR consultant for a while before I transitioned into IT as a Cybersecurity engineer. The motivation to start my own boutique business in Dallas was borne out of a personal experience and that of most of the ladies around me. One evening, I needed a new dress for an unplanned date night but none of the stores had what I needed. The ones that had the dresses I liked were not local so I couldn’t get the dress because shipping would take another day or 2. My husband then said to me, “remember when you were running your mobile boutique back in the day…” that statement got me thinking that it was time to reawaken my passion and be the solution to the problem I and so many other ladies were facing when it came to getting affordable luxury wears at short notice!

Hence, the birth of T’Ary Styles LLC.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
In all honesty, being a mum of two very young kids (ages 6 and 4), and working full time while sourcing bespoke wear, vendors, models photo shoots, website management, events, processing customer orders, and private fittings is quite challenging. It’s been a tough journey but surely a rewarding one as I enjoy every bit of what I do and I have the full support of my amazing husband, family, and friends through it all.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
My growing-up days were quite interesting! I’m the 8th of 8 children, so I was more like the golden child who got all the attention from my much older siblings and relatives. I was born and raised by a working mum who also had several businesses alongside her job as a headteacher at a primary school. I would spend my school holidays running the store with my sisters and the staff and I was like a “boss lady” to all. I liked to engage people in conversations and challenge the status quo especially when it came to treating people with fairness and justice. Overall, I would say that I was quite witty, resourceful, and energetic as a child (I see the same traits in Ary now 😊)
