Rising Stars: Meet Theresa Reynolds

Today we’d like to introduce you to Theresa Reynolds.

Hi Theresa, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started out in the medical field as a Medical Assistant back in 2009. I went on to work in specialties including Urgent Care, Pulmonology, Neuro-Ophthalmology, and Infectious Disease. Along the way, I became a nurse and also taught/ran lab skills for the RN program at a local community college.

After getting married, we made the move from Washington to Texas in 2016 and I decided I needed a break from the heartache of Infectious Disease and decided to jump into cosmetic surgery, managing the laser center a facial surgery practice. It was evident that my background was better used in the clinic, so I began working under a laser tech there and I learned a ton from them. They were very well known in Dallas and had a wealth of knowledge that I am forever grateful for. After a few years of learning and helping to create protocols and very unique procedures, I was granted the opportunity to be a laser provider here at Lemmon Avenue, and here we are.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
A smooth road, what’s that?! No, it has not. I have had my fair share of struggles and I’m sure there are more to come. Going from nursing to aesthetics is two different worlds, so there was a learning curve for sure. The most prevalent struggle I have endured is battling the idea that those who look like me don’t have a place in lasers. Not just as providers but more importantly, as patients. Over the years I have been met with a large amount of pushback from patients who have been burned or scarred from previous laser providers who had little to no understanding of how to treat the skin of color. I am happy to say that I have specific protocols and treatments that not only help these patients but prevent those types of things from happening to new ones.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a Practical Nurse and Multi-Ethnic Medical Laser Specialist in Dallas at Lemmon Avenue Plastic Surgery and Laser Center. I specialize in all things skincare and medical lasers, but I’m mostly known for tattoo removal, doing heavier procedures for things like acne scars, heavier wrinkles, and treatments on skin of color.

I am most proud of the results I get! I love seeing patients light up when they see their before and after or hearing how something like reducing acne scars changes their lives.

I believe I’m set apart from other providers in the industry because I am able to blend my nursing background and laser knowledge to provide a customized outcome for each patient. I look at the treatment plan from multiple angles and can offer things like sedation, injectable numbing for certain procedures, and a very, very honest take on what is needed vs what is not.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
I have had the most amazing cheerleaders along the way! My wife, Brittany has helped me with countless hours of school work and further education and of course, has been my model and Guinea pig for failed procedures while pioneering new combination treatments. My coworker and counterpart at Lemmon Avenue, Taylor is amazing and has helped me so much more than I can ever express! Also, I have so much respect for the Deubers and am thankful that they see my vision and allow me to execute it!
